Head Casualty Pricing North America - Hybrid

About the Role

You will lead a team of actuaries providing quantitative support to the Casualty Desks and the Market Units in North America to achieve high-quality costing and portfolio steering.

 

Critical responsibilities include achieving a high costing adequacy, providing high quality input to portfolio steering and developing your team of actuaries.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Complex costing and oversight, ensuring consistent and unbiased costing and documentation. Simple costing oversight as per target operating model.  ​
  • Ownership of portfolio level costing parameters, models and development of analytics, championing projects to capture and analyze client submission data in a structured manner.
  • Monitor portfolio development and initiate steering actions as needed.
  • Partnering with key stakeholders (external clients, Casualty Portfolio Owners, Underwriting Desk Heads, Client Markets, Solutions teams, Reserving and Swiss Re Senior Management) to evaluate deals, portfolios and pricing parameters using both internal and external data sources.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain best in class actuarial talent.
  • Represent and position Swiss Re as a strong casualty player, interacting with all stakeholders (clients, brokers, regulators, associations)

 

About the Team

You will be part of the Casualty Chief Underwriting Office, a global unit of around 100 casualty underwriters and actuaries based in Europe, Asia, and United States. You will closely collaborate with multi-disciplinary, international, and multi-cultural teams across internal functions such as client underwriter, key account managers, business development, claims and other teams which are passionate about meeting client expectations.

 

 

 

About You

 

As a brilliant and creative actuary or quantitative analyst, you drive our modelling capabilities to the next level to achieve superior costing adequacy. You complement your technical and business know how with proven leadership skill to drive change in the actuarial function to foster accountability, become nimbler to address in a forward-looking manner a quickly changing environment.

 

Essentials:

  • You have a deep understanding of Casualty (re-) insurance underwriting, the market environment (e.g., key competitors, market leaders, substitution risks, etc.) and in-depth knowledge of strategy drivers for insurers, and how they relate to broader industry and market trends.
  • Demonstrated strong management and leadership skills, in particular a proven track record in strategy development and execution paired with the ability to translate strategic objectives into practical action plans.
  • Demonstrated collaboration, team building skills and team mindset.
  • You have strong talent management skills, ideally with experience in virtual management, coaching and developing people.
  • Ability to incorporate forward looking views of the market in underwriting decisions.
  • Superior communication and influencing skills are essential; ability to present complex ideas/analysis to a range of internal stakeholders with varying backgrounds and externally with clients and brokers.

 

Nice to have:

  • Associate or Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS, FCAS) or university degree (master or equivalent) in business administration, law, economics, finance, math, or science.
  • Creative and insightful personality with strong business insights, result orientation and a practical sense of what works.
  • Profound consultative sales skills, strong communication skills.

 

This role requires some travel required, primarily domestic within the US.

 

For Armonk, NY, the estimated base salary range for this position is $191,000 to $344,000.  The specific salary offered for this, or any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget.  At Swiss Re, we take a "total compensation approach" when making compensation decisions.
