About The Role:

In this position you will provide support for the full spectrum of US Medical Reinsurance underwriting services including client management with focus on Managed Care (HMO Re) business. Such services will include: deal pre-qualification (portfolio underwriting), facultative underwriting, maintaining client relationships, reinsurance agreement structuring, and support for ongoing account maintenance. 

 

Essential Responsibilities 

 

Underwriting Focus:

  • Portfolio underwriting (HMO Re and Traditional Medical XOL). 
  • Conduct all aspects of deal underwriting, including client solutions, discussing options, negotiating terms, and managing in-force treaties.
  • ESL Underwriting background a PLUS. (Provide facultative support and evaluate, price and propose rate and strategy for specific and aggregate benefits for self- funded groups)
  • Handle internal referrals as required by guidelines.
  • Timely and efficient turnaround of facultative requests and/or requests for proposal.
  • Support new business and renewal contract negotiations as required.
  • Work closely with actuaries to deliver technical support to clients and manage financial results.
  • Identify when to decline or modify quotes that do not fit into the company's risk profile.
  • Operate in a cross-functional team structure working with the Actuarial,  Claims, Medical Care Management and Technical Accounting functional areas and oversee/coordinate all aspects of underwriting associated with assigned accounts.

 

Client Support:

  • Identify potential medical reinsurance clients using existing market knowledge and available internal and published client information.
  • Engage with existing/potential clients and distribution partners to build relationships and market Swiss Re's services.
  • Participate in client discussions regarding account matters.
  • Active collaboration with various internal Swiss Re teams within the organization.
  • Business development through insurance carrier/health plan relationships,  reinsurance broker relationships or through alternate distribution channels.

 

Leadership and Management:

  • Lead cross-functional team effort by fostering regular engagement with assigned clients.
  • Ensure and promote open communication and exchange of creative ideas across cross-functional teams.
  • Support multi-disciplined team(s) within US Medical Reinsurance to achieve objectives (financial plans, etc)

 

Compliance and Controlling:

  • Ensure compliance with all Swiss Re guidelines, underwriting and pricing parameters, and best practices as well as Code of Conduct.
  • Maintain adequate documentation to support underwriting decisions within corporate systems and demonstrate adherence to guidelines.

 

About You:

 

Education Background:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher
  • Medical product underwriting training

 

Professional experience:

  • Minimum 10 years of underwriting or account management practice in insurance and/or reinsurance with at least  5+ years of experience in HMO Reinsurance underwriting.
  • Employer Stop Loss Underwriting experience a plus

 

Leadership qualities:

  • Proficient in MS Office as well as the ability to quickly learn sophisticated pricing and administrative tools.
