Program Details

About the role 

Swiss Re is seeking a candidate with a strong interest in the insurance industry & capital markets for our Business Development team. The main focus of the Business Development intern is to perform detailed analyses on client financials and explore strategic needs in order to identify profitable business opportunities for Swiss Re. The ideal candidate will coordinate or facilitate the development of high quality analytics and client related presentation materials. This position requires a solid understanding of basic corporate finance and financial analysis. You will be expected to utilize publicly available financial information, as well as statutory regulatory filings and analyze the information within an insurance context. As a Business Development Intern you will be required to prepare financial models projecting income statements, balance sheets, and capital structures to illustrate how different Swiss Re (re)insurance or insurance linked capital markets offerings may be of service to our clients. Through your interactions as the Business Development Intern you will have close collaboration with senior members of Business Development, as well as other functional areas within Swiss Re including Client Markets, Products, and Finance, as well as with colleagues globally.


About the team

The Business Development team works closely with client management and underwriting to discover and originate new reinsurance business opportunities for the Property & Casualty clients of Swiss Re enhancing their value proposition to investors and policyholders.


About you 

  • In Junior year of an undergrad degree program or first year Graduate students
  • Exceptional academic performance (GPA of 3.0 and above)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to clearly articulate views
  • Must be self-motivated, hardworking, analytical, proactive and able to work in a collaborative environment
  • Independent thinking, natural curiosity, and creative problem-solving skills combined with an ability to sustain high level of work output and meet very tight deadlines
  • Must be able to work well with individuals at all levels within the organization
  • Advanced Excel & PowerPoint skills and good computer aptitude are necessary (pivot tables, formulas, vlookups), Powerpoint, Bloomberg
  • Majors: Risk Management and Insurance, Finance, Economics, Engineering are preferred. Liberal arts majors with demonstrated strong quantitative skills will be considered. Double major of Finance and Risk Management and Insurance ideal – used to looking at financial data/statements with an insurance industry understanding
