About the Role

 

The Category Manager Utilities sets and manages the global strategy for the utilities area and is accountable for the category plan.

The role also supports the US Corporate Real Estate business area. The Category Manager Utilities proactively leads or delegates sourcing plans and projects, understanding specifications and demand management, as well as manages specific vendor management and innovation activities. Taking the ownership for US and Utilities, the Category Manager US and Utilities is recognized as the lead for advisory to our business partners in US and Utilities across Swiss Re. 

Approximate spend under management- $50m globally.

 

Major accountabilities

  • Responsible for supporting the bottom-up aggregation of all Utilities data across divisions and countries to inform the top-down target setting process, reconciling the "gaps" between bottom-up and top-down targets and identifying initiatives required to close any such disparities
  • Accountable for delivering annual US and Utilities financial targets
  • Accountable for the overall delivery of the Utilities, KPI and Balanced Scorecard targets
  • Responsible for consolidating, sharing and effective collaboration of Vendor, market, category and internal business data and information to develop the Utilities strategy
  • Responsible for monitoring compliance as well as enforcing Targeted Standard on Global Sourcing and the associated Buying Guidance and Vendor Management Guidance
  • Accountable for developing quality processes to allow for efficient US and Utilities service delivery that meets or exceeds business partner requirements
  • Accountable for implementation and communication of the final US and Utilities Strategy and Annual Utilities Plans to relevant business partners
  • Accountable for execution and application of vendor management in the Utilities, aligned to the Vendor Relationship Management Framework and Global Sourcing Services and Process Landscape
  • Accountable for developing quality processes to allow for efficient US and Utilities service delivery that meets or exceeds business partner requirements
  • Responsible for developing the US and Utilities network while ensuring effective collaboration with in Global Sourcing
  • Responsible for managing relationships with key business partners
  • Accountable for taking ownership of your own career, performance and development
  • Responsible to ensure continual improvement is active in the P&BS team – active part in CI initiatives, engage team members in CI improvements
  • Accountable for ensuring the resources, information and tools are in place for project execution throughout the US and Utilities, providing project management and implementation support where required
  • Accountable for the creation, application, completion and review of major contracts for the US and Utilities
  • Responsible for providing US and Utilities  input into the development of appropriate Playbook.

 

About the Team

 

The Property and Business Services Category team is globally accountable for end-to-end sourcing activities and development of  Swiss Re's sourcing strategy for its respective categories of spend.  This team, along with its Swiss Re business partners and through established Sourcing networks, executes this strategy to deliver value, improve quality, optimize cost and mitigate risk in the supply chain. P&BS Categories account for more than $ 230m in annual spend and are the primary categories managed by this team.  The team consists of a small number of global category managers supported by execution specialists around the globe.

 

About You

 

Bachelor’s degree required at a minimum; in fields such as business administration, finance, law or a scientific or technical field. Strong preference for CIPS or similar professional qualification

Ideally, the Candidate will have ten (10) years of Sourcing/Procurement experience ideally in the insurance, re-insurance or financial services industry. Candidate will demonstrate proficiency in executing on pragmatic solutions in collaboration with the business to advance business priorities. Candidate will be required to communicate effectively with Business partners and external suppliers.  Candidate shall demonstrate behaviours consistent with Swiss Re's leadership imperatives with a focus on driving sustainable performance and continuous improvement.
