About the role 



This new position has been created within US L&H Accounting & Reporting team to provide support for US L&H's financial reporting activities and to also participate directly in enabling the team to be successful with its new financial reporting model. This individual would have important responsibilities to assist with the following:


  • Capital position of the Legal Entity based on NAIC capital framework-Risk Based Capital ("RBC").
  • Reviewing and/or preparing Legal Entity plan and projections.
  • Review and/or preparation of annual Regulatory deliverable- Own Risk Solvency Assessment ("ORSA")
  • Reinsurance collateral management and reporting


Additionally, in the longer term, the position would offer opportunities for a strong candidate to work across all teams within A&R supporting quarterly financial statement reporting across all accounting basis including US Statutory, US GAAP, and Econnomic Value Management (EVM), regulatory compliance, large transaction acquisitions, technology implementations, and various other aspects of the finance function. 


Reinsurance Finance has recently undergone significant transformation that has changed the overall approach of how and where certain financial reporting activities are performed. As a result, the US L&H Accounting & Reporting team utilizes a mix of regional resources from US and Bangalore as well as reporting support from an Accounting & Reporting Global Center. This position would require the candidate to be forward thinking and to actively participate in continuing to develop the optimal financial reporting model with the goal of producing high quality deliverables as efficiently as possible.


The incumbent will be mainly responsible for providing support in Capital Planning and Collateral. The responsibilities, depending on reporting needs at the time, could include supporting the following activities:


  • Preparation and submission of Capital Plans and Projections
  • Preparation of Pro forma Financial Statements and Notes to Pro Forma Financial Statements
  • Preparation of collateral projectiions and review of collateral reports
  • Maintain reports, prepare communication to clients and banks and reporting for reinsurance  Letters of Credit (LOCs).
  • Assist in preparation and filing of the quarterly USGAAP and EVM financial results
  • Assist in preparation of US Statutory Annual and Quarterly filings for all legal entities
  • Preparation of quarterly Legal Entity packages, Audit Committee, and Board reports
  • Participation in presenting capital plans, collateral reports and quarterly financial results to senior management
  • Ensure that the financial reporting control environment is properly maintained and to promptly remediate any issues that are identified
  • Project work on large transactions and other Reinsurance initiatives to the extent required

About You


Technical Background

  • University graduate with a degree in Accounting/Finance, Economics, or Actuarial Sciences
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience within the insurance industry
  • General understanding of USGAAP reporting and Economic Value Management
  • US Statutory insurance accounting experience is preferred
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

We will strive to keep travel to a minimum. However, depending on the candidate's home office location, they must be willing to travel for approximately 20% of their time to other Swiss Re US offices and occasionally to certain foreign offices (e.g., Bangalore, Zurich, etc). The location of this role is flexible within the United States.
