About the Role:

The underwriter works in close collaboration with other Credit & Surety reinsurance underwriters, personnel from Client Markets, Credit Risk Management, and Credit Portfolio Management & Analytics to produce profitable Credit, Surety and Political Risk reinsurance business. Perform underwriting of Surety, Trade Credit and Political Risk treaty and facultative offerings, including but not limited to:

• Gather and assess information on proposed transaction, including deal structure and underlying portfolio. Support reviews of client operations and portfolios as needed, either virtually or at client office.

• Be responsible for pricing transaction using Swiss Re tools to determine projected margins, as well as conducting a contract wording review to ensure compliance with company guidelines.

• Make appropriate recommendation for action, with supporting documentation. Record transaction in Swiss Re tools.

• Be responsible for ongoing management of treaty and facultative transactions after effective date, including servicing client requests for Special Acceptances, and documenting/updating Swiss Re databases and applications.

• Support credit risk exposure management process using Swiss Re tools and applications

• Ensure compliance with the Credit Underwriting Guidelines as well as Divisional and Group Guidelines.

• Maintain business documentation within Group guidelines.

• Develop and maintain successful relationships with external clients and brokers, as well as internal stakeholders such as Client Markets and other Specialty lines units.

About the Team:

This role will report to the Head Credit & Surety North America. 

About You:

The incumbent will work in close collaboration with other Credit & Surety underwriters, personnel from Client Markets, Credit Risk Management, Group Underwriting, and fellow Specialty lines units.

• College degree, preferably with a major in business, finance or economics.

• Solid understanding of accounting and finance, with strong analytical skills including financial analysis.

• Prior experience in the insurance/reinsurance industry, with an understanding of relevant products and underwriting issues.

• Excellent team player, with strong communication and negotiation skills.

• Good proficiency with common IT applications.

• Fluent in English; working knowledge of French &/or Spanish helpful.

• Ability to work under pressure, make decisions and manage a high workload.

• Travel will be required for business reasons, generally within North America.
