As a Treaty Underwriter, you will work with our UW teams throughout all regions to develop, shape and underwrite profitable, new and existing, business opportunities across all Property lines of business in North America. You will serve as a go-to person for product related topics, engage in growth opportunities and provide a view on the risk-appetite.

In this role you will:

  • Shape Swiss Re expert's position and best practice mainly for Property; provide a view on arising issues in the Property area and deliver a comprehensive guidance related to a potential impact on our Property portfolio and potentially other lines of business.
  • Bring in your expertise for Property business cases (with a focus on Property treaty) assuring compliance with Swiss Re guidelines and best practices.
  • Be instrumental in developing business opportunities; be ready to provide your expert perspectives for the Property line of businesses internally and for our clients, with a focus on Property in the Americas region.
  • Create a sustainable reinsurance portfolio by taking a measured approach between growth opportunities and Swiss Re's risk-appetite when giving advice and/or when closing on deals.
  • Build strong network within SR's global Underwriting community and with external experts focusing on the Americas region.
  • Track industry, market and portfolio developments and raise observations during strategic discussions pertaining to new opportunities and when assessing risks.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of Underwriting processes, tools and issues around Property treaty underwriting.


About the Team

The Senior Treaty Underwriter will be part of the Reinsurance Property Centre Team. This position can be filled in multiple offices including Armonk, Schaumburg, New York City, Chicago, Alpharetta, Westlake Village, Kansas City, and other Hub locations. This opportunity may be either a VP (D band) or AVP (E band) depending on the level of experience of the applicant.


About You

  • Minimum 5+ years of re/insurance (treaty) underwriting experience
  • Extensive Property underwriting expertise is critical to the role
  • Experience in project work and leading expert groups
  • Excellent understanding of insurance/reinsurance markets (knowledge of US market preferred)
  • Deep understanding of treaty underwriting approaches, processes and tools


  • Strong focus on the balance between opportunities and risks; solution oriented
  • Enthusiasm for new business opportunities and the desire to think innovatively and creatively
  • Strong communication, negotiation and influencing skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage peak period workflows
