About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the project team to implement ASU 2018-12 "Targeted improvements to the US GAAP accounting for long duration contracts" for L&H Reinsurance globally. The insurance industry views this to be the largest change to US GAAP accounting in the last few decades.


The primary focus of the role will be to build, maintain and improve Stargate as the analytical tool of choice to quantify and assess the impacts at transition and on future earnings. You will also work closely with L&H IT, the regional teams, as well as the US GAAP System team to understand the business, system and process impacts of the US GAAP changes.


Your responsibilities will include:

  • Optimize and maintain Stargate for US GAAP project use, including building visualisations and performing analysis of the business impacts
  • Quantify the impact at transition from implementing the changes and assess different policy choices
  • Analyze future earnings patterns and volatility under different scenarios and assess different policy choices
  • Identify contracts and portfolios where targeted actions could improve profitability or limit earnings volatility
  • Produce material for updates to steering boards
  • Work with regional teams to understand specific portfolios and develop solutions
  • Support the wider needs of the US GAAP project as required

About You:

  • Experienced Actuarial Analyst or newly/nearly qualified Actuary
  • Experienced in a programming language or data analytics
  • Understanding of life and/or health insurance products
  • Good communication skills in English
  • Self-motivated and eager to learn individual
  • Strong delivery focus as well as analytical capabilities
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple deliverables


Other assets:

  • Prior valuation or pricing experience
  • Good understanding of at least one economic valuation framework for L&H business (e.g. EVM, Solvency II, IFRS, new US GAAP)
