About the Role:

Reporting to the Head L&H Valuation Bangalore, you will lead the L&H Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) valuation teams in Bangalore. You will be responsible for actuarial reserving and reporting for branch regulatory and Swiss Re group purposes. The Actuarial Management valuation team is part of the L&H Business Management division in Swiss Re, responsible for managing the in-force business. You will ensure high quality actuarial valuation for external reporting (branch GAAP, branch Statutory and Solvency, US GAAP, Swiss Statutory), internal management reporting and capital management. You will support Swiss Re's L&H business growth in EMEA by providing financial information, advice on profitability and emerging expected experience of Swiss Re's in-force book as well as of potential new business acquisitions.

  1. Management of the L&H Asia valuation team in Bangalore:
    1. Quality assurance of work performed for business carriers and markets in EMEA
    2. Development of staff in the team
    3. Maintain close working relationship with wider Business Management community and other functions in the Bangalore office
  2. Strategic advice and capital management:
    1. Communicate key insights and reserving trends to improve transparency and understanding of L&H results, and to ensure the actuarial feedback is considered, if appropriate, in future pricing activities
    2. Lead or provide input, as appropriate, into capital management, ALM and risk management activities e.g. solvency modernisation, reinsurance management strategy etc
    3. Provide input into the business planning process
  3. Engage with other internal teams (in Business Management and other partner functions) and with external clients and regulators, as appropriate, to ensure effective management of L&H in-force portfolios.
  4. Actively support EMEA and Group wide priorities as required

About the Team:

The valuation team has interdependent relationships with other units within the L&H Business Management division, including Technical Accounting and Claims Management. The team also works closely with other departments in EMEA's L&H Community, including those in business origination functions (Client Markets and Products teams). You will help strengthen the Swiss Re brand by client interaction and industry representation. The successful candidate will foster a strong team culture in order to drive delivery of the overall in-force management mandate and will need to proactively liaise with other L&H functions.

 

 

About You:

You will provide strong team leadership as a key people manager. You will have the following attributes:

  1. Minimum 10 years of experience working in the L&H primary insurance or reinsurance industry, in either valuation or pricing functions, with at least 3 years post qualification experience;
  2. Qualified member of the Institute of Actuaries of India or with a mutually recognised actuarial qualification body
  3. Proven ability to lead actuarial teams
  4. Strong technical knowledge of insurance accounting, reserving and regulatory reporting requirements of India, prior experience in supporting the duties of Appointed Actuary would be considered an advantage
  5. Excellent interpersonal, communication, influencing and people management skills; Ability and courage to constructively challenge strategic business propositions, but also have business mind-set to be solutions oriented;
  6. Proficient in MS Excel. Prior experience in actuarial modelling would be considered an advantage
  7. Good spoken and written English;
