About the role:

As the Head of US L&H Reporting for the Bangalore Hub, the candidate would lead the current Bangalore reporting team to work cross-functionally with various teams within Finance and Business Management to maintain a stable financial reporting environment for US L&H Accounting & Reporting, to include:

 

  • Lead the Bangalore Carrier Team to support all aspects of the financial accounting, reporting, compliance, governance and analysis for Swiss Re Life & Health America Inc. (SRLHA), the premier life carrier for Swiss Re's U.S. Life Reinsurance business, and two other US L&H captives.
  • Position will report directly to the Head of Accounting & Reporting L&H US in Armonk with dotted line reporting within Bangalore office
  • Ensure the teams responsibilities are delivered timely including the U.S. Statutory, US GAAP, and Economic Value Management ("EVM" is Swiss Re's proprietary integrated economic and accounting framework) reporting.
  • Manage resources on the team with training, performance management, hires/terminations, compensation, etc.
  • Network and coordinate with other cross-functional team leads to meet common goals related to our reporting responsibilities and other business strategies.
  • Take an active role in US L&H Carrier Reporting leadership meetings to ensure the overall team is operating effectively, moving towards meeting the team Strategy and Purpose, and developing future team goals.
  • Provide support with the US L&H transition to IFRS which will be effective beginning January 1, 2024 (with 2023 comparatives).
  • Drive the use of technology and data to improve the reporting process and analysis that we provide to key internal and external stakeholders.   
  • Support and contribute views in defining the Americas Finance and Bangalore local Finance team strategies/guidelines

 

The candidate will have demonstrated effective management of people and processes and the ability to break down business or financial drivers in a manner which senior management can comprehend and take action.  Also, the ability to interpret USGAAP and US Statutory accounting principles, reinsurance concepts and financial statement acumen (including capital impacts) is strongly recommended for achieving success in the role.

 

About the team:

The US L&H Accounting & Reporting team utilizes a mix of regional resources from US and Bangalore as well as reporting support from an Accounting & Reporting Global Center. This newly created position would require the candidate to have strong leadership and communications skills to guide a team of 10+ FTEs in filling the US L&H reporting responsibilities, developing forward thinking team strategies, and leading developments towards the optimal financial reporting model with the goal of producing high quality deliverables as efficiently as possible.

 

About you:

Technical Skills

  • General Business Acumen –Understands complex business issues and strategies. Ability to work under pressure and in an environment with shifting priorities, tasks and deadlines.
  • Analytical Problem-Solving Skills - Strong quantitative and business analysis skills. Ability to use mature business judgment in making decisions.
  • Process design and improvement experience – Experience in the development of accounting processes and controls, as well as in process improvements and redesign through continuously challenging and working to streamline accounting processes.
  • People and Organizational Development - Development and management of senior and staff accountants, including identifying goals and objectives for individuals in the group.

 

Experience Background

  • University Postgraduate in Finance; CA /CPA will be preferred
  • Semi-actuary will be a plus
  • Minimum of 12 years of work experience
  • At least 8 years work experience in financial services industry (insurance preferred)
  • Expert understanding of USGAAP reporting. IFRS & US Statutory experience is preferred.
  • Excellent project management, Communication and critical thinking skills
  • Flexibility to work in CET working hours and stretch during QTR close as required
