About the role:

As a Solution Architect, you collaborate closely and daily with customers, business stakeholders and your squad colleagues to design, develop and implement product increments and efficiently operate digital solutions. Building on priorities set by the responsible Product Owner, you align with the rest of the squad to decide on how to implement priority user stories. You will be fully responsible for the tasks you have assigned to yourself and for applying your technical expertise and experience with the aim to maximise the value created for the Product's customers. In addition to your affiliation with your squad, you are also a member of the Solution Engineering & Architecture chapter. In the chapter, you will come together with colleagues who share the same expertise, to share knowledge, and align on common standards and best practice to ensure and continuously increase the effectiveness of the domain's solution engineering & architecture capability.


Your Main Responsibilities

 

  • Assume lead developer role for a number of customized and bespoke solutions to be implemented on various SaaS, IaaS platforms as well as in-house built applications.
  • Build prototypes and proofs of concept to provide early validation of technical solution options
  • Validate vendor responses, conduct technology assessments, review proposals of 3rd party solutions an determine appropriate integration requirements with the Swiss Re landscape
  • Assess current tech solutions and provide recommendations for continuous improvement (eliminate tech debt)
  • Mentor teams of outsourced developers, embedding best practices and promoting awareness of DevOps
  • In interaction with the responsible Product Owner and Scrum master, understand priorities and shape stories for the upcoming Product sprint
  • Participate in and actively contribute to your squad’s scrum events and delivering on the squad's stories and tasks
  • Ensure to act on incidents & high visibility requests and proactively drive resolutions in collaboration with the Product Owners and/or the Major Incidents Management team.

 

About the team:

In 2021 we will bring tech and business together along the Agile principles supported by a new agile digital product organisation called Operations Digital Product Delivery (Ops DPD).
The design is structured around business services from all involved partner organisations clustered in 3 distinct Product Areas:

 

  • The mission of Employee Lifecycle Services is to enable employees to be their best and empower them to grow and deliver business value from first contact to leaving.
  • Group Operations Business Services will deliver and manage end-to-end digital solutions for services towards Group Operations business customers and SR Group to build sustainable business platforms, manage (external) spend, ensure compliance and drive business excellence.
  • Work Environment and Engagement will provide employees with a safe and supported environment during their working journey, making them feel part of Swiss Re wherever they are working from. Also, the team will enable client facing service excellence, with professional hospitality and an engaging digital experience.

    The Solution Engineering & Architecture Chapter Is Responsible For

     
  • Designing, building, configuring, integrating and operating in house built, 3rd party or SaaS solutions/products according to customer needs and product vision
  • Continuously assessing the product quality ensuring regular tests are conducted
  • Defining detailed application architecture in line with overarching guidelines
  • Driving development processes and methods within area of responsibility including requirement analysis, process definition, implementation, usage of tools and the continuous improvement process (build & run)

 

About you:

As a successful candidate for this role, you possess …
 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • At least 8 years of experience working in a technology role responsible for delivery of complex IT solutions, software development or similar.
  • A passion for technology and experience in configuring and integrating 3rd party SaaS or COTS solutions into the Swiss Re (or similar) environment and/or developing organization specific solutions
  • A drive to continuously research current and emerging technology trends and assess their potential value to business
  • Proven experience in various software architecture designs
  • Working experience in software development and design (Eg. Java/.Net etc.)
  • Experience working with various cloud technologies such as Microsoft Azure and/or private cloud platforms
  • A curious mindset, constantly seeking opportunities to improve and eager to learn
  • The ability to decide and act with autonomy
  • A team player attitude, pro-actively aligning with colleagues and contributing to the team's ability to self-organise
