About the Team

As a member of the Accounting Hub Americas team, we are responsible for the timely and accurate reporting of reinsurance technical balances (premiums, claims, commissions, reserves) within several L&H legal entities. 

 

We are looking for a Finance team member that will be responsible for completing duties across all bases of Accounting – US GAAP, US Statutory and Economic Value Management (Swiss Re's proprietary integrated economic valuation framework). You will assume responsibility, together with the local Accountants in the US, for the end-to-end Financial Monitoring and Controlling process of assigned tasks, according to the relevant accounting principles. Your duties will be performed in compliance with local / Group requirements and the internal control framework. This position is designed as a growth opportunity, adding increasingly challenging assignments to the associate accountant's list of responsibilities as knowledge increases.

 

This position is responsible for the accurate and timely technical reporting and analysis of the technical balances in certain blocks of US Life and Health assumed and retroceded business.  Incumbent is responsible for the reporting, review and analysis of financial results, including analysis of actual results compared with expectations, as well as prior periods.

 

  • Position will report directly to the Team Lead L&H A&R Bangalore
  • Initial responsibilities will revolve around completing the transition of offshored duties for the relevant Accounting Hub Americas team
  • Frequent and pragmatic communication in regard to work load and issues encountered with both local and US based management
  • Perform critical selfreview to ensure high quality work product
  • Assimilation of local culture with Accounting Hub culture

Ability to develop and cultivate relationships with local cross-functional business partners and global business partners

About the Role

  • The principle focus of the position is in support of the Financial Reporting for US L&H Americas business, primarily for the US Statutory valuation, for Swiss Re Life & Health America Inc (SRLHA).  The individual will also assist with supporting the financial reporting of US GAAP and Economic Value Measurement (EVM) valuations for actual and projected results.  In addition, the position encompasses preparation and analysis of general insurance expense of the legal entity and consolidated results which will ultimately lead to presenting to management.

  • The incumbent will be primarily responsible for assisting the Controller/Stat Reporting Manager with the US Statutory financial reports.  The main responsibilities include among others:
  • Assist with the preparation of US Statutory Annual and Quarterly filings
  • Responsible for completeness and accuracy of all schedules within the Wings Annual Statement software 
  • Responsible for legal entity statutory electronic filings with the NAIC
  • Maintenance and distribution of Statutory reporting suite, i.e. Report Links
  • Organization and assistance with all facets of financial examinations (e.g. FTP site)
  • Compilation of nonstandard regulatory filings (e.g. Wisconsin filing)
  • Preparation of required manual journal entries and key contact for department MJE process
  • General insurance expense preparation and analysis
  • Compilation of Annual Statement expense exhibits 2 and 3 with supporting documentation
  • Presentation of Quarterly expense meetings to management
  • Management, maintenance and follow up of departmental check lists
  • Responsible for team SharePoint sites including folder organization and compliance
  • Assist with regulatory filings as needed
  • Responsible for the preliminary review of all revenue accruals by account
  • Analyzing and providing explanations for financial results for US Life & Health business on US GAAP and US Statutory bases, including investigation of unusual variances and obtaining appropriate analytical support
  • Willingness to challenge status quo processes and desire to implement process improvements
  • Assumption of additional projectedrelated responsibilities as well as ad-hoc requests from internal clients
  • Participation in team collaboration and communication sessions

    • Ensuring successful/timely cmpletion of monthly/quarterly close duties by self
    • Supprt preparation of certain internal client/regulatory deliverables
    • Perfrming critical self-review of daily/monthly work product
    • Fcus on teamwork – taking on additional duties during peak times
    • Assisting in the cmpletion of ad-hoc projects/queries
    • Participatin in long-term team projects, including period reporting to both local Bangalore and Americas management

About You

  • 3-5 years related experience, preferably in (re) insurance environment
  • Prefer candidates that possess experience in working with US companies and are familiar with US business practices and culture
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong technical PC skills, including MS Word, Excel (Pivot tables and macros), Powerpoint, Access and Business Objects
  • Selfstarter, good written/verbal communication skills
  • Insurance accounting experience is a plus
  • Knowledge of insurance and reinsurance products and features is a preferred
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative team environment
  • Strong desire to learn and develop, receptive to coaching (both positive and critical)
  • Strong relationship building skill set
  • Eager to learn and take additional insurance / reinsurance training programs (e.g., LOMA)
