About the Role

We are looking for a motivated, highly energetic and curious Team member to support Swiss Re and its Magnum (our Automated Underwriting Engine) clients in China. The Underwriting Solutions Consultant role involves pre-sales activities, supporting the implementation with clients, as well as working on increasing the maturity level of Magnum globally. You will join an engaging and energetic Magnum Asia team within the Life and Health Products Solutions unit working with our clients directly.


Magnum forms a key part of our risk management strategy, enabling our clients to benefit from optimized operational processes and to provide the foundation for future growth opportunities. This is an exciting time with Magnum as we are experiencing significant new client activity and developing and commercializing new and innovative UW solutions.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Design, specification, development and production of automated underwriting
  • Issue management: Identifying, raising & prioritising issues and tracking these to a successful resolution
  • Rulebase development: The role will also involve some aspects of rule analysis and development
  • Building, maintaining and contributing to the development of industry recognised methodologies, processes and best practices.
  • Liaising with the client through implementation/change request project phases
  • Responsible for feeding back client needs/ideas to product continuous development
  • Planning, executing, reporting and monitoring projects within time, budget and scope
  • Managing project risks and escalation as required
  • Support the continuing development of the Magnum product including the core software functionality and the generic underwriting rules, by feeding back to the central teams based on client needs. This will involve liaising with both global Magnum colleagues and our external technology partners.
  • Close collaboration with local expert in e.g. Underwriting and Data Scientist Teams.
    The role involves periods of on-site work in client offices.

  • Reporting to the Head of Magnum Asia
  • The Asia team is located in Singapore, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Beijing
  • The group is dedicated to deliver Magnum and associated Underwriting solutions
  • The team collaborates with internal partners across Asia as also globally


About you

  • Direct insurance or reinsurance ( Life and Health) experience of 3 - 5 years
  • Solid business analysis skills and the ability to prepare clear business requirement documents
  • Strong project and change management skills
  • Ability to create rapport & maintain good relationships with the team, underwriters and other important stakeholders
  • Well-developed decision-making and problem solving capabilities
  • Self-directed learner, who prefers a hands on approach to acquiring skills
  • Ability to create structure in ambiguous spaces and manage client expectations
  • Ability to facilitate workshop sessions for business and underwriting design
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal including delivering difficult messages and providing demonstrations to clients
  • Confidently use advanced features of Windows programme
  • Show true teamwork, have a flexible and team-based approach to working with the ability to be able to carry out research and work independently and take personal accountability
  • Experience with the deployment of new technologies
  • A flexible approach to travel is required
  • Fluent in written and spoken English and Chinese
