About the role

Position Summary

Swiss Re Life and Health (L&H) Claims forms part of the Swiss Re L&H Business Management function which is responsible for managing in-force business and related operations. There are four units within the Business Management division; Claims, Actuarial Management, Portfolio Management and Technical Accounting. In addition to the in-force management of existing business, Business Management ensures insights gained from the in-force business are appropriately incorporated in our new business activities.

In this position, you will be responsible for planning and consolidating claim strategy in China Market and facilitating claim work by strengthening client relationships. You will also coordinate claim resources and talents to enhance team synergy and smooth operations management. In addition, you will have frequent interactions with Regional Claims Team and different functions for portfolio monitoring and risk management efficiency, etc.


The Opportunity

This role provides an excellent opportunity to become a leader of Swiss Re's dynamic L&H Business Management claim team, leading change initiatives to implement Swiss Re's future claims vision in China. This role will be instrumental in the implementation of a meaningful and relevant claims philosophy whilst promoting and sharing best practice claims management techniques with clients and internal stakeholders. 



Reporting to the L&H Claims Head, Asia, you will be responsible for delivering the L&H Claims service for Swiss Re China clients. Your superior technical knowledge and delivery of training to clients will ensure operational excellence across all lines of business.   


You will be a team leader of China claims team to coordinate claim and enhance team synergy to smooth daily operations. In addition, you will have frequent interactions with Regional Claims Team and XFTs for portfolio monitoring efficiency, etc.


 You will be required to support and participate in cross functional teams and provide input into product development and commentary on the appropriateness of new and existing business opportunities and initiatives from a claims perspective. You will also be required to provide expert opinions on individual claim referrals, assist clients with the technical aspects of claims management and conduct audit and onsite review activities as required. 


 You will be required to use effective communication skills, be involved in industry organisations and initiate frequent client contact to gather market insights to enhance Swiss Re's professional branding and service propositions in China insurance industry.


 You will be required to engage with internal Swiss Re teams and participate in projects to ensure effective management of the L&H in-force claims portfolios, business goals and financial targets, whilst maintaining a long-term focus on sustainability and strategic objectives.


About the team

About you 

  • Over ten years technical L&H claims expertise with understanding and knowledge of the insurance or reinsurance industry.
  • Significant awareness of life insurance markets and portfolio dynamics in China.
  • Knowledge of products being offered in China market along with the ability to anticipate and/or mitigate potential risks and identify product development or service opportunities.
  • The ability to conduct client audits and develop training materials from audit findings to strengthen client's technical knowledge.
  • The capability to consider data, identify anomalies and use information to develop action plans.
  • Negotiation, communication, influencing and presentation skills.
  • Collaboration capability and the ability to work in cross-functional teams.
  • Courage to challenge the status quo, to explore new ideas that improve our business and may be out of the comfort zone of historical activities.
  • Able to manage China claims team and develop team members' capability as needed effectively
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Chinese and fluency in English.
