About the role

Position objectives and position summary

In this role of L&H Claims Specialist, you will be responsible for the day-to-day planning and operations that support the goals of the China Claims Team for the domestic clients allocated to you.

You will work independently and collaborate with your teammates to effectively manage SR claim liablities through implementing appropriate client management, claims adjudication and risk management strategies.

You are also expected to work closely with the wider China L&H cross functional team members to achieve maximized outcomes. Specifically, by collaborating with colleagues from Client Markets and Underwriting, you can ensure best in class service to be delivered to our clients in consistently manner; by working side-by-side with actuaries from Pricing and Actuarial Management Team, you will complete data analytics and claims deep dive projects comprehensively which will form an integral part for future product development and pricing feedbacks as well as improving portfolio management qualities.

You will also represent L&H China Claims Team together with your teammates in the Asia Business Management and Claims Team meetings where strong communication skills are expected.


Main tasks/activities

  • Manage the day-to-day planning and operations to carry out his/her responsibilities effectively;
  • Analyze clients' portfolio to understand the details and trend of claims under management in order to add value to the outcome within a reasonable timeline;
  • Ensure required claims data and reports are accurate and complete for business reporting purposes (KPIs, key risk factors, etc.);
  • Support the Claims Manager in developing client portfolio management strategy, planning and carrying out Claims Audits/Reviews to ensure alignment to business goals and priorities;
  • Work closely with team members in managing client relationships, providing solutions and value added claims services, including training, claims management, seminars, meetings, etc.
  • Assess and manage claims implementing effectiveness management strategies with clients within the terms and conditions of the policy and pricing assumptions;
  • Ensure aligned client audits are conducted within internal audit framework, and oversee implementation of any remedial actions to improve claims standards;
  • Support the BU in tendering for new business, innovative product development and in promoting claims profile and expertise in the China market;
  • Ensure treaty documentation contains agreed terms and conditions, and the relevant claims clauses and articles fulfill acceptable SR standards.


About the team

L&H Claims Team is part of the Business Management Division which focuses on delivering value-added services to our shareholders and clients on in-force portfolios. This position will manage and oversee the resolution of assigned reinsurance claims. The goals are to provide effective and efficient claims management resulting in the maximization of Swiss Re's claims and legal positions and the minimization of the company's overall claim and loss liability on a gross and net basis while meeting contractual obligations, and provide exceptional customer services.

The Life & Health Business Management China is responsible for overseeing the inforce business. There are teams leading Claims, Technical Accounting, Actuarial Management, and Portfolio Management. The Life & Health Business Management team works collaboratively with our internal partners and client companies, sharing insights, building best practices and leveraging our global knowledge and expertise effectively. The team aims to actively manage the in-force business to deliver maximum shareholder value and to protect the L&H balance sheet.


About you

Education and professional experience:

  • Formal qualification in either insurance/business/financial services/medical/law disciplines.
  • 5-10 years experience in claims in insurance or reinsurance companies.


Skills requirements:

  • Client relationship management experience and soft skills to carry out corresponding responsibilities.
  • Training and/or presentation skills and experiences are useful.
  • Auditng experiences and reporting capabilities are a must.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Strong computer skills (i.e. Outlook/Word/Excel/Power Point)are a must.
  • Negotiation, presentation and analytical skills required.
  • Languages: Mandarin and fluent in English, proficiency in other languages would be a PLUS.
