About the Role

Swiss Re Beijing is a composite carrier writing L&H and P&C business and is a branch of Swiss Re Zurich.  The position is based in our Beijing office, directly reports to the Chief Actuary Beijing Branch, and dotted reports to Head finance China.

As a knowledge bridge between Finance, Actuarial as well as client market team, the position will be responsible for both actuarial and financial matters in respect of all non-traditional businesses. Facilitate E2E process of transaction origination, review, recording, reporting and analysis. The position will also participate regular actuarial work in the evaluation and portfolio analysis in respect of China business.

  • Calculation of quarterly P&C loss reserves to enable group reporting of SRZ Beijing branch reserve estimation
  • Support other SRZ Beijing regulatory requirements of an actuarial nature
  • Make recommendations to appropriate regional reserve committee and local branch management
  • Provide support to the Chief Actuary Beijing Branch for actuarial matters as necessary
  • Support other areas of the company including Finance and Planning in relation to SRZ Beijing relevant issues
  • Support discussions with branch underwriting teams in relation to reserving feedback loops and other product analysis
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local actuarial and industry associations
  • Work on other projects as assigned including participating in internal underwriting audits

About the Team

Swiss Re's Property & Casualty (P&C) Business Management Actuarial & Reserving team is responsible for delivering 3 core mandates for the assigned regions and legal entities/branches:

  1. Prepare quarterly reserving of the P&C in-force portfolio and portfolio steering
  2. Complete statutory reporting to local regulator, and
  3. Drive operational excellence.

The team works closely with other departments in the P&C community. Furthermore, we have interdependent relationships with other units within the Business Management division and is required to foster a strong team culture in order to drive delivery of the overall divisional mandate.

About you

  • 5+  years' experience in a Property & Casualty environment (insurance/reinsurance)
  • Bachelor degree in actuarial science or related field (mathematics or finance)
  • Making good progress through actuarial exams of an internationally recognized association with a view to Fellowship qualification.
  • Deep understanding of actuarial, accounting, information systems and investments.
  • Solid knowledge of statutory and regulatory environments in China or equivalent regulations in other countries.  Knowledge of global accounting rules(IFRS17, USGAAP, EVM) would be viewed favourably.
  • Strong practical capabilities in Microsoft Office and other business software applications. Hands-on experience in R or Python is preferred
  • Accomplished interpersonal and communication skills – demonstrates a clear and articulate standard of written and verbal communication in a complex environment
  • Proactive in seeking out and providing information
  • Actively looks to add value and take on additional responsibility
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritize tasks accordingly
