About the team

Swiss Re Life and Health (L&H) Claims forms part of the Swiss Re L&H Business Management function which is responsible for managing in-force business and related operations. There are four units within the Business Management division; Claims, Actuarial Management, Portfolio Management and Technical Accounting.

Our Claims Team works closely with other Swiss Re teams specifically Underwriting, Pricing and Client Markets to ensure Swiss Re has aligned priorities and client focus, whilst delivering market-specific, portfolio-directed services, which support our overall strategic approach to managing risks and client relationships.

 

About the role

Reporting to the Claims Manager of China L&H Business Management, you will be responsible for delivering the L&H Claims service for Swiss Re China clients. Your superior technical knowhow, market insights and client centricity will enable our internal and external stakeholders to benefit from optimized processes, systems and innovative propositions.

You will lead in benchmarking studies and service development and delivery strategies (including use and development of learning materials, exploration of technology and claims analytics, etc.).  You will engage with internal Swiss Re teams and stakeholders to ensure confident management of the L&H in-force claims portfolios, business goals and financial targets, whilst maintaining a long-term focus on sustainability and strategic objectives.  

You will be contributing and monitoring the exciting journey of developing, commercializing and materializing new and innovative claims solutions as a crucial step of our operational risk management strategy.

Main responsibilities include but not limited:

  • Working closely with clients and stakeholders to design claims journey
  • Define and leverage use of data in claims process
  • Gather business/claims requirements from clients and stakeholders
  • Innovate and own claims innovative specifications
  • Define scope and approach of client deliverables
  • Manage key aspects of the implementation and negotiate priorities to ensure meeting pre-approved specifications, deadlines and resources

This role provides an excellent opportunity to become part of the Swiss Re L&H Business Management Team and collaborate with clients and various teams within Swiss Re locally, regionally and globally.

This role is focusing on client service delivery across China, ensuring we are developing and deploying the right claims services for our diverse client base and undertaking the appropriate inforce management actions and innovations. 

 

About you

  • Significant awareness of life insurance markets and portfolio dynamics in China.
  • Over ten years technical L&H claims expertise with understanding and knowledge of the insurance or reinsurance industry.
  • Strong business analysis and the ability to prepare clear business requirement documents to meet diversified needs from different audience groups.
  • Courage to challenge the status quo, to explore new ideas that improve our business and may be out of the comfort zone and historical activities.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, influencing and presentation skills.
  • Substantial capacity to collaborate and the ability to work in cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to create structure in ambiguous spaces and manage client expectations.
  • Show true teamwork, have a flexible and team-based approach to working with the ability to be able to carry out research and work independently and take personal accountability.
  • The ability and willingness to undertake business travel as required.
  • Understanding and knowledge of the reinsurance industry (desirable).
  • Experience with the deployment of new technologies (desirable).
  • Ability to conceptualise the bigger picture.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Chinese and fluency in English.
