About the role

The candidate will directly support Head of Solutions Group, Life & Health China to drive the delivery of new insurance risk solutions for L&H insurance clients in China. This including owning the process from value proposition identification, idea origination, to business case formulation, driving execution, as well as being the local contact person with regional teams on new risk initiatives. New risk initiatives cover mortality risk, short term accident and health risks and other new evolving insurance risk pools.

This role requires an in-depth understanding of the insurance / reinsurance landscapes and experience in disrupting legacy business models. The candidate should be keen to position Swiss Re as an innovator in the context of product distribution and value chain opportunities, against a backdrop of regulatory and social constraints.

Reporting to Head of Solutions Group, L&H China, the successful candidate will also work closely with client managers, cross functional teams and regional teams in driving the execution of new risk solutions and research projects. Key responsibilities include leading the design of insurance product and servicing offerings, contextualization and building the business cases, transforming selected concepts into ready to market robust solutions, managing the day to day interaction with various internal stakeholders, third party service providers and insurance clients.

Job Specification:

Accountable for the delivery of new risk initiatives growth targets:
As the risk pool lead to own the execution of risk pool initiatives, to drive cross functional team to grow sustainable business for new risk pools and to monitor progress of execution.

Develop new products, service offerings and customer propositions:
working with Solutions Groups team members, local client managers and cross functional teams to identify market gaps, formulate customer proposition, initiate design to meet evolving customer needs and drive the execution of differentiated new risk solutions.

Swiss Re's Risk Appetite:

to steer Swiss Re to have a competitive risk appetite for the new risk pools, in order to reflect the local market demands and experience.

            Sourcing & management of service providers:

            identify relevant value added services that will sharpen the value proposition, integrate into new product design, initiate and maintain service providers relationship, as well as facilitate due diligence of vendors.

About the team

New Risk Solutions Manager, L&H China is a core member of Solutions Group, L&H China, which aims in driving differentiated reinsurance solutions and creating values to insurance clients in China, by leveraging on InsurTech, expert risk knowledge, value added services, inforce portfolio management and consumer insights. The team gets to consult within a cross-functional team environment in the greater Swiss Re and with key life insurance clients in China, which provides ample opportunity to broaden your job scope beyond the key accountabilities listed.

About You

  • Minimum 10 years relevant life & health experience in reinsurance or primary insurance. Less experienced candidate will be considered as Assistant Vice President.
  • Excellent understanding of China insurance/reinsurance industry and knowledge of the main products and services offered
  • Strong innovator and marketer, determined to meet (internal and external) client's needs and dare to challenge the existing product setting.
  • Hands on experience in building business cases for new ideas and getting buy-in from key stakeholders
  • Strong ownership, passion for success and project management skills to drive new risk initiatives
  • The ability to build collaboration internally and externally is seen as key requirement with experience in bringing together different parties of the value chain together to deliver innovative solutions
  • Professional presentation skills to speak at industry conferences and client workshops to showcase Swiss Re value proposition
  • Excellent communication and influence skills to induce changes within a complex matrix organization
  • Fluent English speaker; able to read and present in Mandarin is a must
