About The Role

  • Provide leadership, mentorship, direction, and day to day management of the Underwriting Execution team supporting our Life and Health insurance products, diverse distribution channels, and wide range of vendor relations.
  • Partner with leadership team to make critical decisions affecting risk, profitability and growth of the business.
  • Risk and control management is essential to our growth and preserving our distribution and policyholder commitments.  You'll set and execute the framework; partner with operational oversight program leader to ensure harmony, efficiency, and scalability.
  • Effectively ensure the day-to-day services are properly administrating in accordance with our vendor arrangements and fulfilling on customer promises.
  • Establish the Third-Party Administrator strategy, drive vendor prioritization aligning with the portfolio commitments.
  • Collaborate and support the corporate strategic discipline, establishing and monitoring vendor velocity through powerful relationship management.
  • Strengthen our controls, mitigating risk and fraud, with a wide cross functional population driving results across entities, on time and budget.


  • Perform all people management responsibility from hiring, ensuring employee success throughout entire tenure at iptiQ, driving results, and executing on team commitments which will help us achieve our business and user goals.
  • Create, maintain, and manage tools positioning internal and external teams are successful, and positioned for scale
  • Collaborate with cross-functional team members and other stakeholders including, product managers, engineers, legal, compliance, and other business subject matter experts to influence prioritization, and execute solutions that deliver on company goals.
  • Conduct ongoing manual underwriting control assessment, certify control effectiveness, and lead manual underwriting event and issue taskforce.
  • Represent underwriting, with underwriting strategy, in the iptiQ Americas Special Investigation Unit (SIU)and/or Fraud committees.
  • Ensure compliance of manual underwriting procedures, processes, and practices, internally and externally.
  • Oversee the day-to-day management of the underwriting vendor relations to ensure customer promises, service level agreements, key performance indicators and business commitments are achieved throughout the entire underwriting journey and value chain.
  • Lead, design and implement underwriting rules and guidelines in support of our underwriting strategy and philosophy.
  • Participate in Distribution Partnership conversations as needed, listening to their pain points, and offering solutions.
  • Participate in all governance activities, with full engagement, accountability, while recognizing and managing downstream and upstream implications to the operational journeys.
  • Monitor applicable underwriting reports, ensure there is value add telling the story of the business accurately depicting overall performance.
  • Limited travel for various strategic, key negotiation, audit, or critical collaborative discovery meetings.
  • Support other organizational assignments as needed.

About You

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in a senior underwriting role, which designed and implemented full underwriting and simplified issue underwriting rule sets and guidelines in the Life industry from the ground up.  Similar experience in individual Medicare Supplement and other health products a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience.
  • A minimum of $1,000,000 underwriting approval authority.
  • Experience designing and implementing impaired risk underwriting guidelines a plus.
  • Relevant qualification in Individual Life Underwriting including medical, non-medical and financial risk selection with experience in the development and utilization of novel data and underwriting methods to streamline application processes
  • Able to design underwriting policies, guidelines, practices, and procedures from with little guidance and has the ability to influence and champion changes to improve processes while aligning underwriting with pricing mortality.
  • High level of product knowledge including Exposure Analysis, Forms and Coverages, Basic Legal and Regulatory Requirements.
  • Ability to interpret documents such as policies, proposals, claims and financial reports.
  • Proven track record of managing high performing teams, driving results with a direct correlation to corporate strategy, with autonomy and initiative.
  • Strong organizational skills with high degree of comfort managing multiple activities and multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience using the Agile methodology.
  • Ability to deal positively with ambiguity in a fast-moving business environment.
  • Ability to communicate opportunities clearly and effectively, design processes, ideas, and solutions to business teams, clients, and development team.
  • Comfort working in a start-up style environment where the pace is fast the path is not always linear or clear.
