About the Role

Technical Accounting function is responsible for managing end-to-end process of the reinsurance accounts, cash flow and data quality of the respective portfolio. The portfolio comprises set of our clients who are primarily insurance companies and brokers. 
 

Technical Accountant (TA) ensures that our clients submit account documents within time frame and quality as per contractual wording, analyses and processes reinsurance data and manages overall cash flow. It is predominantly TA function that receives and manages clients' data after a contract between Swiss Re (SR) and the client has been signed and thus has a high impact on downstream functions such as Finance, Actuaries, Underwriters and Client Markets and directly influences technical and financial results of SR. All this is possible only through good understanding of our clients, re-insurance concepts, and accounting principles.

The position-holder is required to follow a set framework of processes and guidelines and continuously improve the situation in order to meet the agreed set of KPI targets. TA has to look for opportunities within the core process to create value (qualitative and quantitative) for SR and external clients. The role also includes many interactions with our internal functions and regular interactions with external clients (via email, call, and even visit). 

 

Key Accountabilities
Full accountability of assigned set of clients/portfolio. Independent and efficient end-to-end handling of this portfolio which includes the following: 
•    Technical verification of received reinsurance accounts from clients as agreed in treaties
•    Clarify deviations, incorrect data with SR's internal departments and/or with clients
•    Process the accounts following set of complex guidelines and processes which include claims escalations to our claims department
•    Financial settlement with clients according to treaty terms and agreements, timely management of overall cash flow 
•    Business correspondence with clients (call, email etc.)
•    Data quality control and risk management related activities according to internal guidelines 
•    Ensure that the agreed priorities, deadlines and service standards are achieved
•    Constantly look for ways to enhance service standard and quality
•    Proactive investigation, analysis and interpretation of processed accounting information
•    Regular reporting to supervisor and internal stakeholders 
•    Sharing of information with other team members and if needed support cross-team cooperation
•    Contact external clients directly (either written or verbal) to clarify and resolve any operational issues such as missing accounting information, incorrect data, payment delays etc. On many occasions, the TA prepares client visit information and sometimes joins other SR colleagues during the client visit 
•    Achieve agreed KPI targets

 

About the Team

Technical accounting department is a part of the core business operations within Swiss Re. Our people receive accounts from clients, analyse and process documents and bring cash in house. About You

•    University degree preferably in the area of finance, accounting, economics or secondary economic school or secondary grammar school with working experience in the area of finance, accounting, administration 
•    Language skills: English fluent written and spoken and German: big advantage
•    Very good comprehension of MS Office (e.g. Excel, Word, Power Point) 
•    Flair for numbers and analytical skills 
•    Good verbal and written business communication skills
•    Excellent team player and willingness to share and support
•    Diligent and accurate working style
•    Detail oriented
•    Solves business problems using own initiative and common sense 
•    Aware of the importance of internal and external clients, understands their needs and works with them to meet these.  Focuses on delivery, meeting deadlines and providing high quality service
•    Understands the underlying economics of the industry and the business to ensure the best financial interests of both
•    The ability to collaborate with others and contribute as part of a high-performance team, as opposed to working independently or competitively, in order to achieve a common goal

 

Minimum base salary for this job from 1100 EUR gross/month/full time. Our offer to you may be higher based on your skills and experience and will include additional rewards and benefits.
