Senior Application Engineer (Java / Web)

About the Role

Your main responsibility will be to support the development of internal applications, supporting workflow and processing of financial data for regulatory submissions. Your tasks will include the analysis, design, development, testing and deployment of new components, enhancement of existing ones, as well as 3rd level support of the applications.

You will closely collaborate with our Finance IT team in Bratislava and internal specialists in Zurich, Luxembourg, London or India ensuring a smooth implementation of required changes in high quality within given time. You will also manage communication and issue handling with third party vendors.

You will closely cooperate with the team mainly on following activities:

  • We are responsible for technical analysis, design, implementation and maintenance of application components in a close cooperation with the other team members and the business lead.
  • We document the technical solution, the data model and the implementation.
  • We collaborate with business departments and other programming teams in an international and multicultural setup, gather and analyse information requirements, understand the business issues and challenges of our internal clients.
  • We are responsible and accountable for the delivery of the components in good quality and on time according to company standards.
  • Testing will be an essential part of your daily work – we perform and document system technical tests and align them with infrastructure requirements.
  • You work independently on sub-projects/tasks without close supervision.
  • We take an active role in continuous improvement of software, data and process quality. We are able to analyse the performance and tune it up.
  • We maintain and support existing components to guarantee high application availability and performance. We support daily operations on testing environments.
  • We take an active role on ensuring that the continuous improvements and upgrade of infrastructure or processes, are actively monitored and managed.

 

About the Team

You will join a Solvency II team in the Finance IT Department as a Software Engineer. Our team is end to end responsible for the Solvency II submission process from an IT perspective (Business Analysts and Application Engineers) and your main focus area is on own developed applications and third party systems used by the Swiss Re Finance departments around Europe.

This portfolio contains client-server applications, batch jobs processing, interfaces to integrate various systems, web applications and ReST web services.

 

About You

  • You have 3+ years of experience with Java/JEE (and specific up to date experience with Java v1.8, the Hibernate framework).
  • You have 3+ years of experience with Oracle database development (Data modelling, Database design, SQL, PL/SQL, performance tuning).
  • You have hands on experience with AngularJS (or similar framework).
  • Having experience with ETL (i.e Informatica PowerCenter) and job automation and execution frameworks (i.e UC4) is an asset.
  • You have strong analytical skills.
  • Linux know-how is an asset.
  • You have good level of communication and dedication to work with various global teams.
  • You practiced automated testing and you're comfortable working in a test driven environment.
  • You are familiar with Agile software development principles.
  • You have self-starting attitude, can deal with stress and work independently.
  • You are flexible and open for new tasks with mindset for continuous learning and improvement.
  • You are excellent teammate, with active problem solving approach to issues and a can-do attitude.
  • Affinity to financial services is an asset.

 

 

Minimum base salary for this job from 1700 EUR gross/month/full time. Our offer to you may be higher based on your skills and experience and will include additional rewards and benefits.
