  • Analyze risk information to evaluate, underwrite and price for exposures.
  • Evaluate insurance coverage, terms, conditions, and loss experience.
  • Cost the expected loss and pricing based on the loss experience and exposures.
  • Consult with the client on coverage required and Facultative Reinsurance structure.
  • Strong skill set for mix of AL, GL, and Umbrella.
  • Understand and be able to discuss insurance coverage and clauses with clients.
  • Adequately document underwriting thoughts and deal rationale.
  • Adhere to Swiss Re's underwriting guidelines and ensure capacity/limits deployed are within Swiss Re's risk appetite.
  • Prepare underwriting and pricing referrals to the appropriate resources.
  • Initiate and engage in marketing directly with cedants or with reinsurance brokers.  
  • Identify new sources of business and position Swiss Re as the desired market for Casualty Facultative business. 
  • Gather market intelligence on clients and competitors and share findings within our team as well as with other Swiss Re departments.
  • Interact with Facultative colleagues, Treaty underwriters, client executives and other internal stakeholders.


About the Team


This role reports to Team Lead Casualty Single Risk Facultative.  This role is not fully remote and requires some in person attendance at a Swiss Re office as well as in person interaction with clients at their offices and/or at offsite meetings when applicable.  This role does require periodic travel for intercompany and client events. 



About You

  • Minimum 5+ years of (re)insurance experience or with technical underwriting capabilities.
  • Knowledge of Casualty (GL, Auto, Umbrella) lines of business required. 
  • Strong communication, organizational, time management, negotiating and influencing skills.
  • Self-starter and entrepreneurial spirit. Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Ability to handle a high volume of submissions and client requests.
  • Conversant with a wide variety of primary products and underwriting trends.
  • Possess a solid understanding of profitability and financial analysis. Understand mechanisms of profitability (e.g. reserving, loss development, IBNR, earning patterns).
  • Ability and willingness to participate in projects.
  • Experience in working with remote clients is a plus.
