About The Role:


Overall responsibility of the role is leading and managing the day-to-day operations of the Midwest Region which encompasses the following territories: the Chicago and Cedar Rapid branches. The Regional Manager will have direct oversight over these two branches. Strategic planning for the region, coaching of Branch Managers and their underwriting staff and portfolio management are central responsibilities. Ensuring marketing/production continuity across the region and agency management are also key components. As a member of the Senior Contract Management Team, contributions to the division's strategic planning are expected.

  • Oversee assigned branch offices, assuring adequate, efficient and professional performance of Branch Managers and their teams to meet the goals of the region.
  • Approve bid and final performance bonds in excess of underwriters and branch manager’s authority in designated small contract/smaller middle market ranges. Communicate with Home Office Managers to ensure continuity between smaller and larger middle market ranges.
  • Responsible for the budgeting and fiscal stability and success of the assigned region. Oversee underwriting production and collection of account receivables.
  • Conduct internal audits and portfolio and claim reviews on region’s book of business.
  • Plan and manage regular meetings with large agents, attend group functions, large account meetings and NAS Surety Group regional meetings as required.
  • Lead and manage special projects as delegated by Senior Management.


Candidates for this role should, preferably, be located in Iowa or Chicago, IL, but we would also consider other locations within the Midwest. 


About You:

  • Proven leader and manager with strong contract surety underwriting, decision-making and communication skills.
  • Relationship builder – internally and externally.
  • Coach, mentor and visionary.
  • Bachelor's Degree with emphasis in business, preferably finance or accounting, or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years of contract surety underwriting experience with at least 5 years of current contract surety management experience.
  • Proven ability to build relationships and produce new business.
  • Strong competency in financial and risk analysis.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Competent computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite programs.
  • Ability to travel 25%, at times more.
