The Team & The Role
We are a team of 12 people based in Copenhagen. We work in a friendly and professional environment of trust and teamwork. We interact with our clients/brokers directly, lead the negotiation and develop strong relationships. In our team, you will be close to the decision makers.

Our Corporate Solutions team needs an experienced Senior Underwriter to generate and underwrite new business in the engineering, construction and Utility sector with brokers and clients in the Nordic region and assisting in other European countries.

Together with the Nordic team you will:
• Extend our footprint as a recognized insurance partner by assessing, proposing and negotiating the insurance conditions for all kind of large and midsize projects of the power, manufacturing, infrastructure, building and heavy civil works sectors as well as operational property and business interruption coverages on utility risks.
• Work closely with the Nordic team in respect of clients and brokers.
• Assess risks, coverage, terms and conditions. Drive the related underwriting processes and assure an appropriate risk management when in a lead position. Triages new submissions quickly and effectively.
• As a member of the global Engineering and Construction as well as the Regional Energy communities act as a point of reference on technical issues in the region and keep track on new technologies and market trends.
• Contribute in the development of marketing strategies for the region and represent Corporate Solutions in meetings with brokers and clients, reporting your progress regularly to the Head of Engineering & Construction for the EMEA region and the Country Head Nordics.
• Support the growth of associated lines of business by actively cross-selling the capabilities of Swiss Re Corporate Solutions and contribute to the development of solutions that are tailored to our clients' needs.


We are looking for a self-starter with the drive to take the initiative and tackle targets in a goal-oriented manner. You feel fully at home in the cultural and business environment in the Nordics or parts of the Nordic countries and ideally other European markets and can fall back on 5-12 years of experience in engineering underwriting. Your honed sales and negotiation skills coupled with your cultural sensitivity and in-depth sector familiarity will form the basis for your success in establishing new contacts and originating new business.


About you:

Professional Qualifications & Experience:
• Engineering degree in mechanical  /electrical/civil/process engineering
• Minimum of five years engineering and/or utility underwriting experience with a primary insurance in the Nordic market or in some of the Nordic markets
• Minimum of 5 years of experience as a professional engineer in the industry, ideally including managerial roles and with sound experience as a project engineer or on site supervision including testing/commissioning responsibilities of large projects
• Strong team player, business acumen, entrepreneurial mindset
• Strong broker and client network
• Excellent negotiating/communication and social skills
• Strong analytical skills and high proficiency with common IT applications
• Ability to work under pressure and managing a high work load
• Availability for travel
• Languages: Scandinavian and English are required
• MBA or postgraduate degree in economics, finance or business administration is considered an advantage
