About the Role:

The position will be in a newly created unit to develop tools for use in the business management area of the Life and Health Americas unit of Swiss Re. 

 

In this role, you will develop, enhance and utilize tools that manage large amounts of data to provide insight on the performance of Swiss Re's business.  You will be collaborating with subject matter experts from Administration, Claims, Portfolio Management, Data Management, Products, Client Markets, Valuation, Finance and other Business Management functions.  In addition, collaboration with Global teams representing other regions will be expected.

Key Business Responsibilities

  • Develop tools leveraging a "big-data" platform in Swiss Re to measure and attribute performance.
  • Coding and building data analytics tools in an efficient way to demonstrate the applicability of the technology to solve the business challenges that are presented.
  • Develop insights via financial history, projections, experience studies, current balance sheet & earnings, and quality of data, assumptions & models.
  • Interact with other business units to understand their data and their needs for tools to manage their tasks and goals through effective data integration.
  • Analyse data for trends and patterns, and Interpret data with a clear objective in mind
  • Research and develop statistical learning models for data analysis
  • Interact with the Information Technology areas of Swiss Re to ensure that prototype models are moved into a production state.
  • Own the release and end-user training of the developed application.
  • Develop presentation and/or communication materials for internal stakeholders.
  • Maintain current knowledge of business practices, data science trends, and technology.   
  • Develop innovative solutions as the business and insurance industry changes. 
  • Contribute ideas to gain efficiencies or reduce operational expenses.

 

About the Team:

This is a new function within Business Management Americas formed in 2020.  It is responsible for development of tools that will allow Swiss Re to quickly prototype big-data models to assess the impact on the business before migrating to formal business applications. The tools will deliver the self-service analytics using Swiss Re's significant data repositories to end users.      

 

About You:

  • University degree in mathematics, statistics or actuarial science, OR two to five years of relevant experience in the data science field
  • Experience using statistical computer languages (R, Python, SLQ, etc.) to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets.
  • Strong background in data mining, data transformation and modelling skills
  • Strong verbal/written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team (including cross functional teams) to contribute to the successful delivery of time-sensitive projects
  • Experience in data mining algorithms, and statistical modeling techniques such as clustering, classification, regression, decision trees, neural networks, anomaly detection, sequential pattern discovery and text mining.
