About the role


A key objective for Life & Health Reinsurance is to deliver a 10 – 12% ROE under US GAAP.  An important piece of this is the ability to predict earnings with the greatest degree of accuracy possible, avoid late surprises, and to minimize quarterly volatility.  This role would be focused on developing and driving key initiatives within US Actuarial Management to support senior leaders on this mission.  Significant improvements have been made in planning, models, and assumptions, but continued soft spots remain, especially around identifying and quantifying the impacts of data changes and emerging experience earlier.


Essential Responsibilities


  1. Work with Technical Accounting and Data Management to develop processes or tools that will allow us to see financial impacts of data changes or corrections at the time of the change
  2. Assist in identifying, signaling and monitoring potential financial impacts on the horizon
  3. Support the advancement of planning and earnings analysis to deliver transparent insights on business performance
  4. Meet key stakeholder needs by providing earnings splits and explanations for different metrics and different levels of granularity or subsets
  5. Support continuous process improvement and assumption development to shore up gaps or weak spots in the planning or monitoring processes
  6. Work closely with colleagues locally and abroad within Actuarial Management and across multiple teams to improve efficiency and clarity of messaging and oneness


About You


  1. Life reinsurance experience in costing, experience analysis, valuation and/or assumption development is desirable.
  2. Comprehensive understanding of the cash-flows and associated lifecycle of life & health insurance products and related valuation requirements. Experience of best estimate reporting is particularly desirable
  3. In-depth knowledge of STAT, GAAP and market consistent valuation requirements and accounting principles is preferable
  4. Career Associate/ Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (or equivalent) and a minimum of 5 years work experience.
  5. Ability to proactively solve problems and take ownership of work
  6. Ability to work independently with strong analytical skills
  7. Strong verbal and written communication skills
  8. Experience in delegating and supervising work
  9. Have a high performance culture mindset, self-motivated to continuously improve and focus on key outcomes.
