Do you have experience and interest in pricing and managing Medicare Supplement business? Then this opportunity may be right for you.

We are seeking candidates to price inforce and new Medical Supplement transactions in close collaboration  with fellow deal team members, onboarding and implementing won deals, experience monitoring, ongoing rate management and execution of rate increase action plans across a variety of deals. Additionally, and depending on deal flow, you will have opportunities to work with a number of medical reimbursement products, such as fully insured major medical, employer stop loss, short-term medical, HMO Reinsurance, Medicare Advantage and Part D. You will also work with renewal business costing support, providing financial actuarial services to client markets, underwriting, technical accounting, reserving and external clients.

About the team

Members of this team develop actuarial quote costs, cash flow projections, assumptions and justifications and experience studies in compliance with corporate governance.

  • You will update, document and improve actuarial assumptions and methodologies, Terms of Trade, and internal processes and controls.
  • Closely monitor emerging experience across states and plans, collaborate with internal resources, carriers and actuarial consultants to prepare rate increase recommendations, and execute the agreed upon rate action plans.
  • You will coordinate Medicare Supplement transaction execution by managing the quoting and referral process under defined approval guidelines, and work as part of a cross-disciplinary team during due diligence and contract negotiation.
  • Construct financial scenarios for client discussions
  • Recommend rate structures for new business or renewals by evaluating and analyzing prior claims experience and other financial aspects
  • Support and drive the development and the implementation of the team's strategy

We have a strong customer focus, and work closely with Client Managers to participate in client discussions that foster, build and maintain strong relationships with client partners. The team collaborates to develop innovative, tailor made solutions aimed at meeting client needs that align with the company's risk appetite and financial objectives.

We are a team of individual leaders that act as a change agent, drive innovation, coordinate and steer the client team via fostering open communication and the exchange of creative ideas across multi-disciplined team(s) in a matrixed organization to successfully achieve objectives. Incumbents have the opportunity to be a role model and senior coach to junior actuaries.

About you

We strongly prefer a Fellow from the Society of Actuaries, an Associate of the Society of the Actuaries could be considered.

The business will be relying on the successful candidate to be able to balance their strong technical skills with their ability to step back to view the big picture, someone who is open minded, trustworthy and enthusiastic with excellent written and oral communication skills. You will be managing multiple projects to successful completion so it will be important that you demonstrate initiative, pragmatism and sound business judgment.

  • Do you have a thorough in-depth knowledge of actuarial concepts and principles combined with Health actuarial training?
  • Do you have detailed knowledge and experience with of Medicare Supplement?
  • Have you had at least five years of healthcare experience in insurance and/or reinsurance?
  • Have you developed experience within various internal disciplines (e.g. actuarial, underwriting, sales, finance) and direct client relationships?
  • Do you have excellent negotiation, influencing and presentation skills?
  • Do you have the ability to make decisions based on sound business judgement and a strong sense of urgency, and is able to maintain credibility and generate confidence in those decisions?
  • Are you highly proficient with programs such as: Microsoft Access, SQL in addition to Excel, Power Point, SAS, GGY, AXIS, Tableau?
