This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced actuarial student or recently qualified actuary to join the project team to implement ASU 2018-12 "Targeted improvements to the US GAAP accounting for long duration contracts" for L&H Reinsurance globally. The insurance industry views this to be the largest change to US GAAP accounting in the last few decades.


About the Role:


  • Design interfaces with upstream and downstream systems (ADAM, LHSL)
  • Design system specifications for the US GAAP reserving engine
  • Work with the IETV team to design US GAAP portfolio/cohort attribute in the end-to-end reporting landscape
  • Work closely with system developers to build the US GAAP reserving engine
  • Perform system functionality testing after each development cycle
  • Support system landscape design analysis and decision-making
  • Work with regional teams to produce historical locked-in interest rate for transition impact analysis
  • Perform gap assessment and identify changes to the quarterly close process
  • Support the design of reserve roll-forward disclosures and changes to earnings analysis process
  • Support the gap assessment and design of changes to EVM assumption setting process to meet new US GAAP requirements
  • Work with regional teams to complete parallel runs and real-life reporting in 2020 to 2021
  • Support the wider needs of the US GAAP project as required


About the Team


In this role you will be working with Subject Matter Experts from different disciplines to formulate reserving system and process solutions to efficiently produce the required balance sheet and quantitative disclosure items under the new accounting standard.

About You


  • Post secondary education in an Actuarial Science discipline with good progress towards completing exams
  • Strong analytical skills, with understanding of current financial reporting systems and processes
  • L&H actuarial valuation experience
  • Good understanding of at least one economic valuation framework for L&H business (e.g. EVM, Solvency II, IFRS, new US GAAP)
  • Ability to translate concepts into system functionalities and processes
  • Ability to integrate inputs from subject matter experts and perform further in-depth analysis to formulate recommendations
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple deliverables
  • Experience in developing actuarial models and working with large actuarial databases. Knowledge of RAFM and Prophet is an asset.
  • Experience in working with cross-functional teams, spread over multiple locations
  • Good communication skills in English
