About the Role

 

General Job Outline:

As the senior actuary in SwissRe Asia Medical Business (part of Life & Health), the jobholder oversees the pricing and controlling work for the regional medical actuarial support team. This involves keeping pricing basis up to date, providing timely and technically sound pricing support, and designing products and services to meet clients’ various products, financial and risk management needs. In addition to the technical parts of the job, the job holder will also be tasked to maintain a high profile for Swiss Re amongst actuaries in the industry by holding seminars and taking an active involvement in the profession.

 

Key Accountabilities

 

  • Lead and manage the regional support in providing technical support to the various local offices on medical quotes, with primary focus on HK market 
  • Contribute to pricing of new business quotes and tenders
  • Maintain documentation of all pricing work, and ensure compliance with costing guidelines and standards
  • Undertakes experience analyses of existing business and new business opportunities
  • Contribute to the development of generic pricing bases and pricing software.
  • Maintain documentation of all pricing work
  • Build young talents in the team both from technical and career progression perspectives
  • Product Development
  • Drive the referral process for large treaties with the regional / global team

 

Major Responsibilities

 

External client service

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with clients
  • Liaises as appropriate with clients on pricing and product development issues

 

Internal client service

  • Assist with pricing reviews of open treaties
  • Assist with the pricing of new business tenders and group scheme referral
  • Liaises with client mangers, underwriters and claims colleagues on product matters.
  • Assist with the establishment and review of appropriate pricing bases, tools and software.
  • Engage and maintain professional relationship with peers in other costing teams and with regional / global teams including costing reviewers

 

Professional Development

  • Maintain up to date knowledge of local and global actuarial practices and trends
  • Monitor local market intelligence, trends and developments (company, product, industry)
  • Participate in industry bodies and maintain up to date knowledge in actuarial field

 

About the Team

 

As part of the regional products team heading up medical reimbursement products, the successful candidate will get to be both an individual and team contributor.  We are also part of the Global Medical team and frequent interaction lends to global medical expertise. About You

  • Qualified (or near qualified) actuary, with 8 – 10 years of relevant experience with medical indemnity pricing / product development.
  • Strong experience in direct and/or reinsurance medical indemnity pricing. HK experience & overseas experience a plus.
  • Good management skills (line management and project management)
  • Good communication and negotiation skills
  • Familiarity with computer tools such as SAS, with experience / interest in actuarial analytics
  • An aptitude for languages would be an advantage
