About the Role

 

Business Development (BD) is looking for a highly motivated talent to take the Hong Kong BD team to new heights. This exciting opportunity sits within the Reinsurance Business Unit and reports to the Head of BD Asia. In this position, you lead a team of motivated professionals and play an integral part in driving origination of profitable reinsurance business across Asia (ex-Japan/China). The position holder will work collaboratively with various functions across Swiss Re, including Client Markets, structuring units and other teams to drive both transactional and other business growth in L&H and across all client segments. On top of all this, you will put your influencing skills to the test as you push themes that will serve as future sources of business for Swiss Re.

 

The position holder will maintain a relentless focus on understanding client needs today and tomorrow, developing corresponding client solutions, driving innovation and growing the transaction pipeline with exciting business opportunities. You are a leader who is strategic and forward looking - someone who gets restless just maintaining the status quo and are always seeking the next opportunity to maximize value creation for both Swiss Re and our clients. You have a passion for developing promising talent and collaborating with colleagues across the Reinsurance Business Unit.

 

Main Responsibilities

  • Understand and identify new insurance market needs and client insights in order to generate meaningful business opportunities
  • Initiate and drive analytical projects with a focus on value creation opportunities
  • Develop and promote the value proposition of reinsurance as a pro-active element within clients' strategic and capital management toolkit
  • Drive discussions with clients on key strategic topics such as capital management and the implications regulatory developments
  • Be a trusted advisor on certain expert topics and be an active member of client deal teams
  • Lead, motivate and develop the Hong Kong BD team
  • Ensure the highest quality output produced by your team, in particular client and deal analyses and external pitch materials

The Business Development team develops origination/solution ideas and assists in deal execution related to large transactions for clients across the globe. About You

  • Relevant work experience including excellent understanding of (re)L&H insurance markets, including understanding of primary market trends and products
  • Financial acumen, with strong knowledge and interest in the areas of corporate finance, regulatory and rating frameworks, accounting as well as company valuation drivers
  • Experience in effectively leading and developing teams
  • An engaging personality that lives Swiss Re's Leadership Imperatives
  • Demonstrates strategic vision and agility - ability to think strategically, anticipate future consequences and trends, and incorporate them into a plan with a relentless focus on execution
  • Out of the box thinker; comfortable working on solutions across a broad range of challenges
  • A strong communicator who is able to present complex information both to technical and non-technical audiences in a confident, simple and concise way
  • A 'doer' - someone who likes to talk enough about what needs to happen but is itching to get the job done
  • Fluent command of English, additional language skills advantageous
  • Actuarial and other qualifications are valued but not required
