About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a highly motivated, multi-jurisdictional legal team. The role is a mid-level position, which demands high energy and self-confidence as well as pragmatism and curiosity. It offers the rare opportunity to grow and learn in a creative and growing business seeking to disrupt the traditional insurance space.

As strategic partner to iptiQ China team, you will actively participate in the development, launch and maintenance of new insurance products and apply insurance regulatory requirements to new and creative insurance distribution models, product benefits or features.

In this position, you will report to the Head Legal iptiQ APAC based in Hong Kong, who in turn, reports to the General Counsel iptiQ.


What are the key responsibilities?

  • Advising on insurance licensing matters, leading projects relating to licence application, and liaising with regulators

  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide range of commercial agreements and legal documents, including distribution, partnership, smart analytics, outsourcing, and collaboration agreements

  • Regulatory compliance, including licensing, outsourcing, cybersecurity, related party transactions, data protection etc.

  • Managing legal issues relating to corporate governance and general corporate secretarial matters

  • Coordinating internal approval processes / advice across Legal & Compliance and related functions in Asia region

  • Developing templates and processes to establish a lean and risk-based approach to legal risks

  • Conducting training and raising awareness of legal risks

  • Collaborating with members of other Swiss Re legal teams regarding disputes, corporate governance, intellectual property matters

  • Supporting the internal governance processes to ensure legal risks are promptly identified, communicated and mitigated

  • Engaging and managing external legal counsel

  • Other matters as instructed by Head Legal iptiQ APAC.


Are you up for the challenge?

  • PRC qualified lawyer with 8+ years of experience in in a multinational insurance company or law firm in China.

  • Demonstrate confidence in leading and advising on licensing and business operation projects.

  • Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills and proficiency in written and spoken English and Mandarin.

  • Confident in your ability to drive matters independently while balancing the need to collaborate and maintain an appropriate level of communication and coordination with the rest your peers.

  • Demonstrate accountability, resilience when facing challenges and you are fully reliable, responsive and display a high level of energy.

  • Recognised by clients for the pragmatic advice you provide, your sense of urgency and commercial mindset and by colleagues, for being an excellent team player, always happy to assist others, collaborating and fully transparent, and for your good sense of humour.

  • Experience of working in large international organisations.

  • Frequent cross-border travel (e.g. Shenzhen/Beijing) and relocation to Shenzhen may be required.

We are a multi-jurisdictional team composed of 20 legal professionals based in Asia, Europe and the US and we continue to grow as our business expands. Established a year ago, we are responsible for all legal matters relating to the business conducted by our licensed carriers. This includes maintaining effective systems for the identification, management and control of legal risks, evaluating proposed business transactions and implementing effective governance processes.
