About the Team:

Principal Investments & Acquisitions (PIA), part of Swiss Re's Group Asset Management function, manages a portfolio of direct equity investments in the insurance space (Principal Investments). We are also responsible for strategic M&A activities of the Swiss Re Group. As a global team of investment professionals, we monitor our existing investment portfolio, and source and execute new transactions.
We are looking to add an Investment Professional to our team. The Investment Professional will be based in Hong Kong and report to the Regional Head PIA Asia. You will spend a substantial part of your time on projects and portfolio positions in South East Asia and India, but will also have the opportunity to operate in other markets across the region.

 

About the Role:

You will be actively involved in all stages of managing our Principal Investments portfolio and support strategic M&A activities across the Swiss Re Group:
• Stay abreast of macro/financial market developments and corporate finance activities in the (re)insurance industry through market research and interactions with industry participants.
• Utilize and develop network to originate and triage Principal Investment prospects across the insurance value chain (life, non-life, distribution, technology) and strategic M&A opportunities in line with the inorganic growth aspirations of different Swiss Re's Business Units.
• Take an active role in the evaluation of specific transactions and the preparation of proposals, including development of investment thesis, financial modelling, valuation, and structuring.
• Coordinate due diligence efforts, including effective management of external advisors and internal cross-functional teams.
• Assume responsibility for defined tasks in the execution of projects, including structuring, coordination of legal documentation, accounting and reporting considerations, and approval processes.
• Actively monitor assigned Principal Investment positions through participation in meetings with portfolio company management teams; preparation of monthly and quarterly reports; regular updating of investment thesis; and execution of exit transactions.
• Produce periodic reporting on portfolio company performance and on an ad-hoc basis as required.
• Build meaningful business relationships with external stakeholders and represent PIA in internal cross-functional teams and initiatives.
• Leverage the support of junior team members and provides them with on-the-job training.

 

About You:

• 7+ years of relevant work experience in M&A, corporate finance, corporate development, and/or private equity roles.
• Understanding of the Asian financial services industry; relevant (re)insurance and/or investment experience in South East Asia and India preferred.
• Strong financial acumen and rigorous analytical thinking.
• Relevant corporate finance, financial modeling, valuation, negotiation and deal structuring skills.
• Ability to condense information in a meaningful way, write concise investment proposals and effectively communicate to decision makers.
• Understanding of regulatory, capital management, accounting, tax, legal, and governance related aspects of investments and M&A in the insurance space.
• Project management skills with experience in executing complex M&A transactions a plus.
• Ability to prioritize and operate results-oriented in an intensive environment.
• Ability to act with degree of independence and influence both within and outside of Swiss Re to achieve required objectives.
• Ability to direct junior members in project teams and contribute to their professional development.
• Ability to work with highly confidential information and manage conflicts of interest.
• Proficiency in English essential; Mandarin preferred, other Asian languages a plus.
• Willing to travel extensively, at times at short notice.
