About the Role


Are you an energetic data engineer who is truly customer-obsessed and loves working with teams to design and deliver exceptional data driven solutions? 


As a data engineering lead, you will be responsible for delivering best in class data engineering capabilities supporting the companies' ambition to become a data driven commercial insurer.  You will have strong skills in designing, building and testing data management solutions within big data cloud infrastructure.  You have a real passion for truly democratising data for the business and our customers.


You will be able to achieve your goals through your experience in the design of data integration frameworks and data models, and through your strong command of data scripting languages being able to implement standardised, performant pipelines at the code level.


Your focus on delivering streamlined, efficient framework-based data pipelines will ensure consistent, reusable and high-quality data for your customers.  You thrive working in an agile, collaborative environment providing knowledge and guidance on best practises and techniques for data engineering as well as gaining a deep understanding of the business


Your responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate with your customers, understanding their data needs, finding innovative ways to bring data into their daily process
  • Implement, verify, design, and maintain data management solutions
  • Build data architecture for ingestion, processing, and surfacing of data for large-scale applications
  • Experience of different databased scripting languages and frameworks within big data infrastructure, understanding the nuances and benefits of each, to connect systems
  • Research and discover new methods to acquire data, and new applications for existing data
  • Work with other members of the data team, including data architects, data analysts, and data scientists
  • Create full transparency of data for customers to know what is available and how to use it
  • Driving the importance for delivery standards
  • Create an agile working environment, focussing on the delivery high quality products and providing the ongoing support to meet the customers' needs
  • Embedding monitoring of performance and quality of our end to end data landscape from source to user


The position is flexible to Kansas City, New York City, Armonk or potentially other locations within the United States.

Your profile:

  • Proven track record of delivering results and impact
  • Minimum of 5-7 years as a data engineer
  • Strong business acumen and a deep strategic mindset
  • Excellent programming skills, Spark (Preferred using Python), R, Java , SQL
  • Experience with data and analytics technology, including but not limited to Hadoop, HDFS, Spark, Java, Python, R, Kubernetes, ElasticSearch, and others.
  • Experience working with and understanding the needs of customers or clients (internal or external)
  • A desire and openness to learning and continuous improvement, both of yourself and your team members
  • Proven analytical skills and experience making decisions based on hard and soft data
  • Commitment to the organization’s new way of working through greater collaboration and breaking down of siloes
  • Understand and can articulate the concepts of data science, machine learning and AI
  • English fluency is a requirement, demonstrating excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent in team and organizational development by providing the highest quality of services
  • Experience in information & data governance would be a plus
  • Experience with the cloud-based services from major cloud providers including but not limited to Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services.
  • Self-motivated and good communication skills
  • University Master degree (or similar) in Computer Science, Business Administration or equal
  • Ideally experience in insurance/reinsurance or financial industry
