About the Role


The Americas Specialty Carriers team is primarily responsible for the accounting, reporting, and control activities relating to multiple carriers and projects within the Americas region for a multi-location team. The Specialty Carriers Team Lead interacts with internal stakeholders (e.g. Group External Reporting, Asset Management, Legal, Compliance, Front Office, etc.), Executive Management and local audit presence. With the Americas legal entities preparing for the Global implementation of IFRS 9 and 17, you will be engaged in supporting activities that drive the future of finance. We are looking for a Finance professional to ensure proper execution of accounting processes.


Primary Responsibilities:


  • Independently coordinate and review legal entity functions done in multi-location setting for all bases of Accounting & Reporting – US GAAP, Statutory and Economic Value Management (EVM)
  • Critically assess and examine the current Accounting & Reporting deliverables and controls and drive implementation of improvements in the effectiveness and efficiency of processes
  • Review and help coordinate the assigned operations of 3rd party outsourcing provider for investment accounting reconciliations and ledger activities comprised mainly of derivative and bond investment products
  • Assist Team Leaders in reviewing financial performance, preparing documents and fluctuation analysis for one or more legal entities
  • Prepare quarterly financial statements and qualitative reporting for the legal entity CFO and bi-annually for BOD
  • Work with Group Functions (including Asset Management, Tax, Risk, Treasury, Product Control, Group Finance) to enable high collaboration and delivery of reporting that meets the needs of all clients
  • Willingness to challenge status quo processes and desire to implement operational improvements
  • Assumption of additional project-related responsibilities as well as ad-hoc requests from internal clients
  • Anticipate issues and develop appropriate and timely solutions
  • Develop a solid understanding of data flow, system landscapes and system interactions impacting accounting transactions under relevant valuations and provide insight that helps to ensure a smooth flow of information through the accounting & reporting life cycle
  • Understand and follow the existing control framework to meet all internal and external audit requirements



About the Team


Our team manages a niche group of legal entities within the Swiss Re Group. Through these legal entities Swiss Re is able to offer products to our customers that complement traditional Reinsurance.  These products include placement of Catastrophe Bonds and derivative products on behalf of clients as well as the Company.


The Americas Specialty Carrier team operates as part of Finance Reinsurance Americas, ultimately reporting to the Americas CFO.  We maintain strong links to other finance teams – both locally and globally. 



About You


  • Bachelor's degree in business or Finance
  • 4-5 years' experience in financial services industry or equivalent Accounting/Financial Reporting environment with general understanding of US GAAP reporting
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team to effectively manage priorities and meet aggressive deadlines
  • Public accounting and IFRS experience is ideal, but not required
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Dependable colleague with a customer-service focus and personal accountability
  • Global perspective and project-oriented approach
  • Detail-oriented with ability to manage multiple deliverables simultaneously and remain on target with accuracy and timeline
  • Proven background in various types of financial instruments, including derivative products
  • Ability to empower and lead change both culturally and functionally
  • Outstanding analytical skills with well-rounded financial thinking
  • Drives for consistency and high effectiveness
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and influence positive outcomes
  • Strong computer/office tool skills, especially Microsoft Excel and preferred experience with data analytic tools like Power BI/Power Query
