The Finance Manager has overall responsibility for all financial matters of Swiss Re Asia Pte Ltd, Malaysia branch in Kuala Lumpur for its Conventional and Retakaful operation.  The incumbent needs to maintain fiduciary oversight for the legal carrier in Kuala Lumpur and the activities include maintaining a strong finance operation with adequate governance and controls, monitoring the financial position, establishing relationship with the relevant regulatory authorities (including Tax), and together with other business functions in managing the business and financial management risks of the operations.


Summary of specific areas of responsibilities

  • Maintain an effective finance function with strong governance and internal controls that meets the requirement of Swiss Re
  • Ensuring smooth transition of key strategic projects of Swiss Re Group to the extent it applies to the Branch like IFRS 17 and IFRS 9 implementation
  • Lead finance business partnering and be a thought leader representing Swiss Re various forums
  • Support in management of permanent establishment (PE) risk exposure of SRAL with strong collaboration with Group Tax and other relevant functions


Key activities


Business partnering

  • Represent the branch and support the relevant stakeholders in Malaysia in interaction with the relevant authorities
  • Key partner to the business in maintaining a strong governance and control environment
  • Provides financial oversight and act as a trusted provider of timely, high quality financial information
  • Ensure appropriate financial evaluation, execution and accounting for non-routine  and/or otherwise complex transactions/contracts
  • Advise business stakeholders on finance related matters that involve Malaysian laws and regulations, including tax with effective collaboration with Group tax and local tax consultants


Team management

  • Effective team coaching and cultivating a strong performance culture
  • Build strong team work environment with focus on effective cross functional/geography collaboration
  • Develop personal and leadership imperatives with the team



Finance function

  • Maintain strong financial accounting and reporting function for the branch
  • Manage the relevant strategic and tactical matters related to production of required reports and analytics, internal/external audits, cash flow management, tax compliance (in close collaboration with colleagues outside of Malaysia)
  • Comply with the relevant Malaysian laws and regulations and the applicable policies and procedures of the Swiss Re Group
  • Develop proper governance structure, control environment and guidance as appropriate for the operation in collaboration with other governance functions
  • Pro-active in driving process change/operation set up that is required towards potential change in business operations in addressing future business needs.
  • Lead implementation of IFRS 17 and 9 for the branch
  • Actively support Finance initiatives in system enhancement and process improvement


Legal Entity Responsibilities

  • Represent the Branch in meetings with or reviewing the relevant correspondence from/to the regulators in Malaysia
  • Provide finance fiduciary oversight for the Branch
  • Maintain relationships with designated regulatory authorities in Malaysia (including Tax) and coordinate all Finance involvement on statutory examinations /reviews
  • Manage audit activities of internal and external auditors and ensure timely resolution of identified issues
  • Oversee and manage high quality capital and cost planning within the local regulatory and Group requirements


About You

  • Strong multi-disciplinary finance expertise (such as accounting, treasury, financial planning, finance operations, taxation etc.)
  • Strong decision-making skills and ability to adapt to changes in environment or business
  • Strategic & creative thinking and strong drive for continuous improvement
  • Ability to multi-task and demonstrated thinking agility
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (English language skills required)

  • Independent and capable of analyzing  number critically, reviewing contracts,  challenging inputs and drawing out relevant conclusions
  • Strong presence, engaging and motivating
  • Strong knowledge of M/IFRS, regulatory requirements and tax regime in Malaysia
