About the Team

The Actuarial Control team is part of Risk Management with Group responsibilities to both the Chief Actuary (Head of Actuarial Control) and the Chief Risk Officer.  The Actuarial Control department covers independent oversight for the Group on both L&H and P&C Reserves as well as being responsible for the independent validation of the Group Internal Capital Model and models used for reserving and costing.


About the Role

A key initiative you will lead will be to develop more quantitative approaches to the review of liability valuations, applying statistical techniques and forward looking judgement in determining an independent view on liability valuations.


Each quarter you will review L&H US GAAP liabilities and EVM valuations, ensuring the reserves have been determined appropriately.  In addition you will review proposals made to the Regional Reserving Committee and provide independent assessments to the Chief Actuary.


Throughout the year you will participate in 'deep dives' assessing the quality of reserving on specific portfolios through reviews of assumptions, data, models and reserving processes.


This role could be VP or AVP level.


About You

  • Qualified actuary with at least 7 years of experience in the Life industry
  • Practical experience of pricing, reserving or financial reporting
  • Strong academic background with a good foundation in mathematical statistics and numerical methods
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as R, Python, C++ , SAS, is desired
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with good spoken and written English
  • Ability and courage to constructively challenge actuarial analysis or status quo, as well as keeping a business mind-set at the same time
  • Experienced in working with multiple teams across functions and geographies
