JOB / PROJECT PURPOSE

To support the UK Director & Officers (D&O) team and wider UK Casualty/Finpro team meet their strategic goals;

  • Working on individual deals analyse underwriting submissions and assist cost deals
  • Research Projects: (A) Construction PI – Implications of Grenfell disaster on the Professional Indemnity and the broader market; (B) D&O (i) Research emerging trends in in the D&O market, particularly the UK. (ii) Corporate Governance – project to understand the landscape around companies Environmental and Sustainability practices and the risk factor associated with this. Aim is to produce a compendium of underwriting questions that assist the analysis of this discipline. Project would entail liaising with other related teams, such as Political Risk, Energy & Mining, Aviation etc.

 

As the D&O portfolio diversifies and takes more Primary lead positions this in turn will raise additional portfolio steering challenges. Moreover, UK retail has recently launched a Primary offering for D&O servicing multinational clients. The candidate will assist the D&O team in launching this offering and raising market awareness about Swiss Re proposition. The successful candidate will also assist with researching the potential client base for this Product and identify any potential scope for existing clients to utilize Swiss Re as their D&O lead insurer.  

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Assist the Lead Senior underwriter in analysing submission data
  • Support wider Casualty / Finpro team
  • Analyse Transcript of Accounts, Share price analysis, Review of Investor presentations and Annual Statements
  • Claims review and analysis
  • Review of Companies Corporate Governance performance (including Environmental and Sustainability policies)
  • With guidance from Lead Senior Underwriter, manage and organise own work effectively, to ensure that the agreed priorities and deadlines are achieved.
  • Undertake required training as identified by the Lead Senior Underwriter and in the case of Research project, the Project Lead.

 

KEY SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS & PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES

  • Experience maintaining accurate records.
  • Proficiency using Excel at a basic/intermediate level is required.
  • Familiarity with Powerpoint would be advantageous.
  • Accurate and numerate. Able to demonstrate attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with basic statistical principles would be advantageous.
  • Interest in data analysis and ability to identify trends in data.

Interns@SwissRe is 10 weeks temporary placement from end of June until August 2020.
