About the Team

L&H Business Management is one of Swiss Re’s core business pillars in the Reinsurance business unit and has a major impact on the strength and performance of the company by actively managing the in-force L&H portfolio. The Division comprises Actuarial Management, Claims Management, Technical Accounting and Portfolio Management.

 

Within L&H Business Management, the EMEA Portfolio Management unit focusses on maintaining the in-force portfolio in a healthy state and supports Swiss Re's L&H business growth objectives in a sustainable manner. The team is responsible for the identification, execution and monitoring of management actions on the in-force portfolio aimed at creating value in terms of profit, efficiency, control and value-add for our clients. That includes, for instance, ensuring a full business feedback loop by sharing insights gained from the in-force business so that they can be incorporated in our new business risk-taking activities.

About the Role

The successful candidate is expected to show a good balance of analytical and negotiation skills.

This exciting role, broad in scope and constantly evolving, provides excellent opportunities to collaborate with various teams within the entire L&H community including those in business origination functions (Client Markets and Products teams). The Portfolio Management team has interdependent relationships with other units within the L&H Business Management division, regionally and globally. The successful candidate will be a proactive and clear communicator with strong influencing skills who is adept at managing stakeholders at all levels.

You will support the Portfolio Management team on various topics such as, but not limited to:

  1. Analysis and interpretation of the financial results, the Source of Earnings analysis for USGAAP as well as for the EVM, which is the value measurement at Swiss Re.
  2. Experience monitoring of the portfolio, working in conjunction with the Actuarial Management and Products teams; specifically proposing analyses and actions to the Portfolio Management Group.
  3. Engage with other internal partner functions (and with external clients) to perform effective management of the L&H in-force portfolios
  4. Data strategy and analytics; coordinating activity with other functional teams as required
  5. Governance: engage in open and closed treaty reviews, referral reviews on recaptures and changes in existing treaties
  6. Assess profitability of In-Force treaties and review reinsurance premium rates
  7. Support Group-wide and local projects as required
  8. Owning, driving and ensuring the timely delivery of Portfolio Management priorities.

About You

In addition, you will have the following attributes:

 

  • Near / newly qualified Actuary.
  • Minimum 4 years working experience in the (re)insurance industry or equivalent L&H know-how.
  • Thorough understanding of US GAAP financial reporting and market consistent valuation methods.
  • Solid technical knowledge in all areas of liability management (e.g. experience analysis, product pricing and valuation, financial performance analysis, reserving, and claims)
  • Ability to navigate in ambiguity and to work autonomously.
  • Strong interpersonal, organisational and communication skills.
  • Team player and sensitive to cultural differences with a positive attitude towards a dynamic and international environment.
  • You are analytical, inquisitive, able to break-down complexity, and to summarise efficiently.
  • Entrepreneurial, resilient, optimistic and self-motivated.
