Senior Research Commercialisation Manager

The successful candidate will lead the development of strategic initiatives, from innovation to commercialisation. Working closely with Swiss Re Institute's Exploratory Research and Partnerships teams, she/he will assess research initiatives that have sufficiently large, sustainable economic impact. She/he will then work with public, private and research partners as well as colleagues across the Swiss Re Institute, the Group's Business Units, and Group Functions, to develop commercial opportunities for the Group. The goal will be to incubate these initiatives to the point they can be handed off to relevant Business Units for commercialisation.

 

Current initiatives the team is developing include:

  • Data&Analytics-as-a-Service
  • Supply chain
  • Life & health choices (e.g., nutrition, lifestyle, etc.), behavioural economics, and their impact on morbidity and mortality
  • Intelligent cities
  • Technology risks and opportunities
     

Please highlight your skills, knowledge and experience relevant to one or more of the topics above. The topics will be developed by the different team members as relevant given available resources and skills.

 

An important part of this role will be contributing to increased data collection and curation to support research and commercialisation of new initiatives. She/he will work with technology partners within and outside of the firm to develop SRI technologies, platforms, products and services that materially impact the Group's performance.

 

The successful candidate will ensure internal communication of initiative progress and external positioning of Swiss Re as the pre-eminent risk knowledge company.

 

Key tasks and responsibilities include:

  • Building and leading cross-functional teams to develop commercial initiatives
  • Exploring our clients' strategic challenges, changes in regulation and insurance market environment, to develop risk and/or re/insurance propositions and origination strategies
  • Collaborating with BUs to develop concrete client opportunities and market initiatives
  • Proactively identifying potential for continuous improvement of existing solutions
  • Exploring potential of new technologies and start-ups to partner with to deliver differentiating offerings
  • Developing MVPs, prototypes, and pilots to get real world evidence and data to craft new models and offerings
  • Tracking and internally communicating on initiative progress
  • Building content and working with communications and marketing to position externally on initiatives, as relevant

This role will report to the Head Research Commercialisation, within SRI's Research & Engagement team. About you

The successful candidate will have the following attributes:

  • Proven experience and track record in delivering commercial outcomes in one or more of the SRI initiatives
  • Understanding business value and being able to translate that into current and future solutions and services that are commercially attractive
  • Experience managing global projects, including client and internal stakeholder management, initiative tracking, and reporting
  • Experience with key technologies in the space of data and machine learning desirable
  • Superb communication skills, with significant experience of demonstrating the value of R&D at senior level and translating technical decisions into profitable business outcomes
  • Experience driving and negotiating client and end user perspectives against corporate business values to make commercially successful products
  • Ability to articulate prioritisation based on business value versus effort and deliver against tight schedules and budgets
  • Proven interpersonal and management skills, with successful experience of managing global projects across cross-functional teams and building buy-in, motivation and trust across diverse groups
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and to work under pressure
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work across departments, from sales to IT, and external consultants, to deliver Group value
  • Fluency in English
