About the Role


We are seeking a Senior Property Underwriter to join our London based team with recognised experience and visibility in the UK Commercial Insurance Market and a successful track record in underwriting both Multinational and Domestic Large and Medium Sized Corporates. The individual requires a strong background in building international property insurance programmes, with expertise in underwriting Property captive placements. They should hold a strong network in the market and an entrepreneurial mind-set who will enable us to profitably expand our portfolio by leveraging outstanding origination and technical underwriting skills.


•    Analyses and assesses Property submissions in respect of exposures and coverages. Identifies and negotiates the best position for Corporate Solutions
•    Triages new submissions quickly and effectively identifying opportunities in cooperation with the client manager
•    Communicates proactively, timely and with transparency with clients and brokers
•    Underwrites the business in accordance with internal processes and guidelines
•    Prepares quotations, structures programmes and offers proposals
•    Uses Swiss Re tools and systems proficiently
•    Develops strategies to expand position on current accounts and to cross-sell other lines of business in cooperation with the client manager
•    Contributes to marketing Corporate Solution's products offering including participation in industry events with a focus on property, in cooperation with the country manager. Participates in broker visits and contributes to building and maintaining broker relationships.
•    Ensures a steady flow of new submissions
•    Discusses and negotiates with clients and brokers in cooperation with the client manager
•    Contributes in developing our offering in order to make them suit the market needs and practices

Compliance and Controlling
•    Ensures compliance with all Swiss Re guidelines, underwriting and pricing parameters, best practices as well as Code of Conduct.
•    Ensures accuracy and reliability of financial reporting for assigned clients.
•    Ensures that relevant Group, Divisional and Business Unit deadlines are met.


About You
•    University degree or equivalent.
•    Minimum 5-10 years relevant experience in property underwriting of medium to large corporates including in a lead capacity and servicing insurance programmes
•    Strong broker and client network
•    Open-minded, trustworthy and enthusiastic.
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
•    Excellent presentation and negotiation skills, customer focused approach
•    Proficiency in the use of underwriting tools and ability to interpret and judge the results.
•    Ability to deal with complexity and sometimes incomplete information
•    Setting priorities and allocating own resources by defining the appropriate level of detail.
•    Solution and result oriented
•    Is willing to perform under time pressure during peak activity renewal periods while ensuring adherence to processes and guidelines.
•    High level of independence, initiative, accountability
•    Good level of energy and pro-active behaviour
•    Strong team player, able and willing to support more junior team members
•    Willingness to travel as required
•    At ease with leaving the comfort zone and performing under pressure with deadlines.
