About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the project team to implement ASU 2018-12 "Targeted improvements to the US GAAP accounting for long duration contracts" for L&H Reinsurance globally. The insurance industry views this to be the largest change to US GAAP accounting in the last few decades.

 

The primary focus of the role will be to use analytical tools to quantify and assess the impacts at transition and on future earnings. In addition, you will need to co-ordinate with Products, regional teams, Finance and other teams as required to ensure the changes are understood and being implemented consistently across L&H.

 

Your role will be mostly focused on the business impacts and your responsibilities will include:

  • Quantify the impact at transition from implementing the changes and assess different policy choices
  • Analyze future earnings patterns and volatility under different scenarios and assess different policy choices
  • Utilize Swiss Re analytics tools such as Stargate to perform analysis and build visualisations of the business impacts
  • Identify contracts and portfolios where targeted actions could improve profitability or limit earnings volatility
  • Produce material for updates to steering boards
  • Work with regional teams to understand specific portfolios and develop solutions
  • Support the wider needs of the US GAAP project as required

 

About You

  • Recently or nearly qualified Actuary
  • Understanding of life and/or health insurance products
  • Prior valuation or pricing experience
  • Good communication skills in English
  • Strong delivery focus as well as analytical capabilities
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple deliverables
  •  

    Other assets:

  • Good understanding of at least one economic valuation framework for L&H business (e.g. EVM, Solvency II, IFRS, new US GAAP)
  • Experience working together with accounting experts and other experts involved in the L&H accounting and reporting process
  • Programming language skills (e.g Python, SQL etc)
