About The Team

With more than USD 120 bn of assets under management, Swiss Re Asset Management manages the assets generated through the core insurance and reinsurance business. With the advent of technologies such as cognitive computing, smart analytics or machine learning the reinsurance area will radically change in the next years in terms of distribution, underwriting and administration of insurance protection. The Knowledge Products team has a mission to exploit platform solutions using techniques ranging from statistical modelling to machine learning serving stakeholders across the Asset Management value chain. About The Role

 

As Sr. Big Data Engineer for Asset Management, you will be working on several of the key technology initiatives leveraging cutting edge data, cloud and integration technologies. You will be involved in designing and developing end to end applications. Will be involved in dealing with Database, client side and server-side components, UI and integration of the application, that encompass our Smart analytics deliveries. You will be working with some of the brightest and smartest people who are set to make an impact to Asset Management

 

The ideal person will be someone who can operate strategically and deliver tactical outcomes in complex projects, working side-by-side with our data scientists and other technology professionals. This person will have a broad understanding of multiple programming concepts, Agile methodology, and have proven him/herself leading development team in designing modern systems in multiple complex IT projects within the SDLC. This role can be based in NYC or London. 

In Particular, The Role Will Involve

 

The Knowledge Products team is chartered with establishing expertise and creating products on emerging data science trends and insights. As a product function, Knowledge Products will seek to understand the current and near-future state of how our users both consume and make "Knowledge" actionable. Products will be driven by various types data and be curated by user needs (Personalize & Sociable).

 

We are a fast-paced team, established to deliver innovative Digital Data Science Solutions serviced directly to our business users. Our team delivers the coordination, infrastructure and competencies that are key to driving innovation in Asset Management.

 

Knowledge Product members will be expected to have hands-on knowledge of various technologies to create cutting edge web-based products leveraging key mainstream technologies and at the heart are powered by Data Science. Overall, we're looking for a passionate and innovative

Senior Big Data Engineer using state-of-the-art technological complements.

 

  • Work with product, design, data scientist, backend, and frontend engineers to develop Knowledge Products

  • Help define and improve our standards for a maintainable, modular, and healthy code base for both the frontend and backend

  • Evaluate and advocate for improvements in product design, quality, performance, and security

  • Solve technical problems of various levels of complexity

  • Take ownership of code and confidently ship features, bug fixes, and improvements with support from other team members when needed

  • Stay on top of emerging trends and help the organization in making informed technology decisions

 

This position demands an ability to problem solve, prioritize, and communicate proactively. The ideal candidate will have experience working backwards from the product design to understand the true requirements underlying feature requests.

 

Essentials

About You

 

  • Minimum 5+ years of work experience in an agile digital product development environment and BSc. or MBA/MS/PhD in computer science, engineering, information technology

  • Experience of software engineering in python/Scala/Java

  • Deep understanding and expertise in using Spark in combination with pySpark, spark SQL, Scala/Java and familiarity with performance tuning 

  • Experience with relational database and SQL (Oracle, Postgres, Redshift, SQL Server etc.) 

  • Experience with NoSQL, Graph and streaming platforms, e.g. Kafka, MongoDB, Neo4j

  • Familiar with advanced analytics and modern machine learning techniques along with pipeline management experience

  • Demonstrate ability to architect and design big data solutions for cloud platforms, e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP

  • Hands on experience with cloud native services such as AWS EMR, Azure databricks, HDInsight, Sagemaker etc.

  • Proficiency with APIs, containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
