About the opportunity

This is a mid-level Claims position, based in London, responsible for the professional handling of a portfolio of Aviation claims within the Swiss Re Corporate Solutions EMEA region. This will also include handling internal claim related reporting, communication and management of external customer relations.

You will be equally comfortable acting as Lead or as a Coinsurer, and capable of technical coverage evaluation and exposure analysis and influencing a market to reach the desired outcome.

Our objective is proactive investigation and evaluation, fair resolution, and the delivery of outstanding customer service in line with the Corporate Solutions Claims Commitment.

The position reports into the Aviation Claims Global Practice Lead.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver the highest quality claim handling and customer service consistent with the Swiss Re Corporate Solutions (SRCS) Claim Commitment and Claim Handling Guidelines (CHG).
  • Handle a portfolio of claims of varying severity within defined technical authority from first advice through to settlement, including, coverage review, fact investigation, loss evaluation, and designing and executing on an appropriate claim resolution strategy. Set and maintain appropriate and timely indemnity and expense reserves consistent with SRCS reserve timeliness expectations.
  • Proactive diary management to drive claims towards timely resolution.
  • Select, direct and handle external specialists and vendors, including working with professionals to set appropriate budgets and effectively handle costs.
  • Select and manage outside attorneys, where needed, including working with attorneys to set appropriate resolution strategy and budget and proactively handle costs.
  • Regularly provide meaningful claims input to internal partners.
  • Keep Claim Management and Internal Stakeholders aware of loss potential and material claim developments, consistent with the CHGs and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Plan and conduct claims account reviews with brokers, external specialists and customers, helping to identify any trends.
  • Provide accurate information and data for Claims' reporting.
  • Understand and identify claim fraud indicators and work with SRCS Claims SIU unit, as needed to report and combat potential fraudulent claims.
  • Identify, properly evaluate and handle subrogation and claim recovery, where applicable.
  • Stay in sync with internal governance, legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Regular Claims and Insurance Industry training/education, including obtaining applicable insurance certifications/designations.
  • Participate in regional and global projects as requested and required.

Key Competencies, Qualifications & Experience

  • Educated to Degree-level or equivalent insurance or legal-based work experience (ACII Preferred)
  • More than 5 years Claims or Insurance Industry experience working in the aviation insurance market. Practical working knowledge and experience of handling Lead and Claims Agreement Party claims is an advantage.
  • High level interpersonal and organizational skills, flexible approach and the ability to work effectively under tight deadlines.
  • A desire to learn and develop as a person and as an insurance professional
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Solid coverage, investigation, loss evaluation and claim valuation skills
  • Solid negotiation skills with a desire to continue development of such skills.
  • Ability to engage and handle external specialists, including proactive cost management.
  • Solid understanding of underwriting and other insurance functions.
  • Solid computer skills including proficiency in the use of MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point) and strong practical knowledge of LPC / ECF2 market systems.
