About the Team

Technical Accountant III are those with intermediate/advanced accounting experience and fully independent in their daily work. They manage business performance and proactively identify trends in their portfolios, making adjustments as needed. Demonstrated understanding of standard operating procedures, guidelines and key controls.


Position summary:

  • Understanding of E2e process and larger reinsurance picture/interplay with other functions

  • Active contribution to simplification and/or development of new processes and methodologies
  • eAdmin (in addition to the above):
    • Independent feedback loop to internal stakeholders 
    • Displayed understanding of "classic" TA process and eAdmin alignment with processes and guidelines

Perform and/or oversee work by peers for clients/accounts and/or processes assigned, driving performance in reinsurance portfolio. Authorize and/or escalate financial transactions and/or payments as per authority matrix. Escalate issues to management and/or senior management as per business judgment. Drive positive relationships with internal/external clients. Perform TA operational duties as needed/required while demonstrating advanced understanding of our processes and procedures. Ensure accuracy and integrity of the technical accounting data in the systems while being able to handle and/or oversee set of clients/portfolios. Understand downstream implications to Finance, Actuarial, Underwriting and Client Markets. Look for opportunities within core process to create value (qualitative or quantitative) for Swiss Re and external clients. 


About the Role

  • Perform TA operational duties (accounting/booking transactions and/or billing, collection, cash allocation) with focus on data quality and driving value through active application of client segmentation
  • Coordinate and prepare monthly/quarterly performance measurement (i.e. KPIs) statistics, reviews/analysis and/or internal client financial and operational reviews/analysis
  • Oversee, monitor and assure compliance of Key Controls, as well as providing comprehensive analysis and business/management comments with proper back up in our Operational Risk Control tool (OETool) and, if needed, initiate and lead corrective actions.
  • Process client accounting documents and handle internal/external queries as required
  • Escalate financial transactions/payments assuring adherence to processes, guidelines, quality management framework and key controls
  • Demonstrate understanding of reinsurance contracts and concepts by analyzing accuracy of ceding company reports, with the ability to understand complex reinsurance agreements and Service Level Agreements
  • Settle balances with External Clients according to reinsurance terms and agreements.
  • Timely collect Accounts Receivable, keeping track of Financials within portfolio assigned
  • Conduct business correspondence in English with internal and external clients via email, phone calls, and visits to clients if required
  • Participate in special tasks (i.e. Power User network, Peer Reviews, UAT’s, Mini-Projects, etc.).
  • Constantly look to enhance the service standards and quality
  • Proactive investigation, analysis and interpretation of processed accounting information
  • Regular reporting to supervisor and internal stakeholders
  • Sharing information with other Team Members and working cross-functionally, as needed
  • Oversee, monitor, analyze and (if needed) decide, initiate, lead corrective/preventive actions to meet/exceed internal client financial and operational TA standards as defined in Service Agreements
  • Oversee, monitor, analyze and (if needed) decide, initiate, lead corrective/preventive actions to achieve Unit’s Operational and Financial targets defined as KPI’s (Key Performance Indicators)
  • Escalate issues to management and/or senior management as appropriate
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting and compliance with internal/external/regulatory requirements and/or commitments
  • Manage own workload effectively to achieve agreed service/business standards.
  • Maintain Data Quality control and perform risk management related activities according to internal guidelines
  • Clarify deviations, incorrect data with SR's internal departments and/or with clients, as required
  • Contact internal and external clients directly (either written or verbal) to clarify and resolve any operational issues like missing accounting information, incorrect data, payment delays, etc.
  • Escalate pending or critical matters to Business Management Team Members as required
  • Identify root cause and failure analysis of workflow


About you:

  • University degree preferably in the area of finance, accounting, economics or administration or business related field or equivalent experience.
  • Language skills: Fluent or Advanced in comprehension and use of English (written, spoken, listening).
  • Strong computer skills (MS Office - Excel, Word, Power Point)
  • Good at numbers, strong analytical skills (Flair for Figures)
  • Sound Financial Accounting and accounting principles accounting know-how
  • Effective interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) business communication skills
  • Proactive exercise of critical thinking analysis and problem solving.
  • Excellence in new workflow technologies (ACORD, B3i, Robotics, etc.).
  • Understanding of E2e process and larger reinsurance picture
  • Ability to work as a team player while demonstrating leadership traits
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a virtual/remote international/global/multicultural team environment.
  • Demonstrated agility and ability to navigate ambiguity to deliver on core expectations through change
  • Proven track record of being a self-starter and working with limited guidance, ability to manage workload effectively
