About the Position

The Medical Reinsurance Technical Associate is responsible for providing support to Swiss Re's Medical Reinsurance Unit, covering the Life and Health Business Portfolio in North America. The North American markets are competitive and complex.  The North American Medical reinsurance pricing and new business contracting processes are complex and in turn, rely on the accuracy and completeness of data inputs from a wide array of sources.  It is imperative to maintain effective quality assurance, as inaccurate and/or incomplete data in the pricing process can lead to significant operational risk and/or core risk evaluation inaccuracy.  You must want to collaborate within a team environment and actively transfer knowledge, coordinate and act accordingly to regional strategic initiatives and priorities. You will ensure that client market supporting activities are performed accurately, efficiently and according to relevant timelines. The role will report to the Business Services Team Leader responsible for this team.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Medical Reinsurance Unit with relevant support for non-client facing activities, including facilitating interactions between functional experts to ensure Client Markets and Business Services controls and guidelines as well as internal and external requirements, quality assurance and SOX guidelines are satisfied.

  • Responsible for managing new and renewal processes, including data entry into the Life and Health Treaty Management processing system to create electronic treaty records, which feeds numerous downstream business processes including administration, claims, valuation, finance, treasury, etc.  It is imperative that the information to create the electronic treaty processing be created in an accurate and timely manner.  Invalid or inaccurate information can create significant operational risk as well as evaluation inaccuracies.

  • Coordinate Client Markets, Products, Claims, Underwriting and Contracts to ensure required documentation is maintained as per local requirements and stored and accounted for in relevant tools in accordance to compliance deadlines.  Maintain all electronic documents for both the Quote Opportunity (Quote Tracker) and Electronic Treaty (Treaty Manager) process systems to be used for follow-up issues and to satisfy all internal or external audits and reviews.

  • Monitor the Facultative Quote mailbox and MedRe Submissions mailbox, including downloading the RFP and relevant files to the network.

  • Function as Business Services Representative at Client Markets meetings where business and technical processes are discussed, and follow-up on outstanding items as necessary.  This includes leading the New Deal Meeting process – creating the new deal document, soliciting input from stakeholders to determine proper number and naming of segments, and validating/reconciling actual treaty documents back to Treaty Manager.

  • Serves as the North American lead support for internal department personnel with a dependence on Quoting and Treaty Administration Systems.  Provide training and support to staff and ensure adequate coverage to guarantee treaties are entered in a timely manner.

  • Serve as the North American representative for User Acceptance Testing parameters and dates, go live testing, as well as responsibility release acceptance sign-off.  Work closely with the Quote Tracker and Treaty Manager development teams building new system solutions for other areas of the business, which must be interfaced and supported by those aforementioned systems.

  • Serve as the North American lead support for the definition, development, and rollout of the next generations of Quoting and Treaty/Administration System.

  • Compliance Support – Ensure external & internal audit compliance by complying with internal LH guideline processes and organizational Risk Management (audits).

  • Provide US Medical Reinsurance Unit with ad hoc reports as needed, highlighting points of concern/interest.  Including but not limited to: Power BI Pipeline report, Cockpit KPI report, Cockpit Discussion Note report, Power BI Treaty Manager reports to assist Actuarial with quarterly reconciliation of new pricing segments.

  • Support the Plan and Projection process, coordinating with Finance.

  • Participate in LH projects and contribute to process improvements.

About You

The role will require strong interpersonal skills, as there will be significant interaction with all levels of the functional areas that provide inputs and participate in the pricing quote process.  Since this position serves in many ways as the gatekeeper and control point of process workflow, it will require an ability to function well under the potential pressure from Functional Experts to move the quote along outside the guidelines.  At the same time, they must be able to apply common sense and judgment recognizing the unique circumstances that cannot always be anticipated. Must be able to make independent decisions with little to no input from manager.

Strong written skills are required to assist in the documentation of processes as well as control documents.  A detail orientation is very valuable, but just as important is an ability to step back and see business and quality processes in a broader context.   A well-developed set of end-user IT tools is important, as many solutions will rely on the use, control and integration of such tools.

  • A four year college degree or equivalent; higher education such as an MBA is valued
  • Re/insurance knowledge and experience; L&H specific knowledge is a plus
  • Proven track record of successful development and custom use of end-user IT tools
  • Strong skill sets including systems knowledge of: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat
  • Highly motivated individual who can think analytically and proactively
  • Work together with internal stakeholders, and listen to their needs and look at challenges from their viewpoint
  • Excellent organizer, flexible and able to work effectively under tight deadlines
  • Own problems and the accountability for solving them; ability to cope with changes in tasks and priorities
  • Evidence an openness to new ideas and solutions, whether from inside or outside; ability and willingness to transfer knowledge and experience to colleagues
  • Proactively offer assistance to others, seek opportunities to “pitch in” and help colleagues
  • Demonstrates willingness and initiative to seek new knowledge and tasks, question current processes, and suggest improvements
  • Fluent in English; Spanish is a plus

IMPORTANT: Please submit your CV in English because this position will report to US
