About Swiss Re

Swiss Re is one of the world’s leading providers of reinsurance, insurance and other forms of insurance-based risk transfer, working to make the world more resilient. We anticipate and manage a wide variety of risks, from natural catastrophes and climate change to cybercrime.

At Swiss Re we combine experience with creative thinking and cutting-edge expertise to create new opportunities and solutions for our clients. This is possible thanks to the collaboration of our 15,000 employees across the world.

We offer a flexible working environment where curious and adaptable people thrive. Are you interested in joining us?

About the role

We are looking for highly motivated and result oriented underwriter to join our underwriting team in Munich.

Your work as a Property Underwriter:

You evaluate and assess risks in accordance with company guidelines and standards and make underwriting decisions within your authority level for assigned treaties. You will write referrals for your clients and present them to our senior management for the ultimate decisions.

You will help us to maintain a balanced portfolio which we intend to develop in the future with your help!

Do you want to nurture our transaction pipeline together with the key account managers of your accounts - and of course convert the opportunities into deals that benefit both us and our clients? To this end, you will initiate discussions with clients to identify their motivation, needs and priorities. You will develop innovative reinsurance solutions and transactions, using the full range of our capabilities.

You will play a meaningful role in meetings and negotiations with clients/brokers, and you will build relationships with your client's property UWs and coordinate know-how transfers.

You will also be a member of the EMEA Property hub whose strategy is to strengthen transactions, professionalize solutions and sharpen our core business. We expect you to contribute to the execution of this strategy.

About you

  • Work experience in a quantitative field (ideally underwriting) and/or consulting background
  • You have earned a university degree (Master or equivalent), preferably with a quantitative, scientific or economic focus.
  • Do you believe learning should never stop and appreciate development and change as meaningful ingredients to your work?
  • You have demonstrated analytical and quantitative skills and are a pragmatic problem solver, also under time constraints and changing boundary conditions. You flourish with delivering results.
  • It is vital that you have an intrinsic motivation and like to take ownership: your manager empowers you and does not intend to micromanage you.
  • You are creative, and a good communicator, and you thrive in collaborations with colleagues and clients.
  • Your English and German are fluent, additional languages like French, Spanish or Italian are a plus. Do you love it to interact with colleagues from many different nationalities?

Also advantageous:

  • Primary insurance know-how
  • Actuarial training
  • Experience in project or deal team management

About the team

Who are we? During times outside of pandemics, our desk is based in Munich and Zurich and consists of an international underwriting team. During pandemics, we collaborate from home in well-working virtual teams. Our Globals clients are headquartered all over Europe and you will be looking after few of them.

The Globals focus on a property insurance with a worldwide scope, serving a client base ranging from homeowners to corporations. To distinguish ourselves from the competition, we provide services to our clients, and we share our know-how with them. We aim to help our clients grow and to flourish with them, by closing the protection gap as well as in helping our clients with their capital management.

Deals we write in our desk range from country-specific treaties to worldwide solutions with a broad coverage. As a result, you will collaborate with other lines of business, facultative underwriting, offices abroad and structured reinsurance.
