Become the underwriting and sales leader for Weather & Environmental & Commodity Markets (ECM) business for North America and Latin America

 

About the role

 

You would lead a team of highly experienced professionals in the region and play an integral part in driving origination and underwriting of sustainable and profitable business, with ownership for the client relationship and P&L responsibility. You would be responsible to develop the underwriting strategy for allocated markets, as well as strategies for selected key clients, brokers and other business partners.

 

Key Tasks

  • Lead the underwriting and origination team for North America and Latin America and come up with sales and underwriting strategy for the region as per the risk appetite and portfolio guidelines set by global business Head
  • Ensure the adherence of the group underwriting standards, governance, risk and compliance policies in the region 
  • Ownership of the overall P&L result for the region along with management responsibilities to plan, support and conduct effective trainings, seminars, client campaign
  • Represent Weather Underwriting team in the regional management team meetings, conferences, and industry events
  • Strong focus on positioning Swiss Re in the market by growing market share, as well as driving innovation and differentiated solutions to generate new opportunities in both weather and renewable market segment
  • Focus on talent development and foster a collaborative and open environment both in your team and across the global Weather & ECM community

 

About the team

Swiss Re Corporate Solutions is a global leader in the Weather & Energy Commodity risk transfer solutions. The Environmental & Commodity Markets team (ECM) offers a wide range of solution for weather risk, energy market risk (such as power & gas), and power plant outage risk solutions in both insurance and derivatives form. Our clients include power and gas utilities, retailers, independent power producers (IPPs), renewables, banks, and other energy industry sectors.

 

About You

 

  • University degree in Mathematics, Engineering or similar discipline with 10+ years of relevant experience in US energy markets either in a market origination, trading or structuring role with solid working knowledge of trading contracts, and of financial derivatives including swaps, futures and options
  • Leadership experience with strong negotiation and presentation skills
  • Strong quantitative and analytical background with proven experience in either pricing or trading of energy/weather derivatives preferably in the US market.
  • Self-Motivated, Open minded with entrepreneurial spirit
  • Developed and established relationships with key market participants in US power and gas market
  • Proficiency in any of the programming languages such as C++, R, Matlab, Python and portfolio management skill is a plus

 

For New York City the estimated base salary range for this position is $203,000 to $369,000.  The specific salary offered for this or any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget.  At Swiss Re, we take a "total compensation approach" when making compensation decisions. This means that we consider all components of compensation in their totality (such as base pay, short-and long-term incentives, and benefits offered), in setting individual compensation.
