About the Team:

As part of the SRCS' Innovative Risk Solutions ("IRS") team the position holder will support the IRS North America team in origination, structuring and execution activities for all types of non-standard solutions for corporate clients and public entities, reporting to the Head Innovative Risk Solutions North America.  Innovative product offerings include tailor-made re/insurance, captive solutions, parametric Nat cat, structured fronting, run-off solutions and other bespoke structured (re)insurance solutions.

 

About the Role:

 

The opportunity:

Key to the success of the position is the ability to pro-actively drive the main areas of focus, which are:

  • Enable growth of top and bottom line, with focus on strong bottom line profit, of IRS NA by generating and cultivating a strong deal pipeline of transactions that meet the risk appetite of Swiss Re CorSo.
  • Originate, structure and execute IRS transactions in close collaboration with regional sales teams, KAMs and underwriting.
  • Lead deal teams. Ensure an all- inclusive deal team approach working together with Sales/KAMs, product underwriting, actuarial, legal, accounting, finance, credit and other professionals within Swiss Re Group.
  • In collaboration with Sales, KAMs and product underwriting, establish and meet plan objectives.
  • Develop and innovate new products.  Work collaboratively on new product development teams.
  • Ensure best practice underwriting and ensure compliance with regulatory, accounting, tax and legal requirements as well as adhere to Group Guidelines and guidance in place to mitigate any reputational risk of Swiss Re.
  • Ensure efficient resource allocation by focusing on the most promising deal opportunities utilizing triage, closure risk and resource assessment processes, and early deal-sounding with senior management.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with key internal parties, brokers and clients.
  • Maintain up to date recording of deal opportunities and closed deals in CorSales to enable efficient reporting by Head IRS NA. 
  • Willingness and ability to work on new and non-traditional risk issues where no two days will be the same.  Candidate should be comfortable creatively solving problems and working with ambiguity.

  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with internal and external clients, brokers and captive managers.
  • Represent IRS NA internally and externally as a center of excellence for innovative risk and capital management solutions.

 

Leadership and management

  • As part of the IRS North America team, ensure that a yearly planning process is in place in collaboration with regional sales teams and product underwriting.
  • Actively participate in formulating, marketing and executing Swiss Re CorSo’s strategy.
  • Prioritize market opportunities and realize synergies among IRS and other Swiss Re units including Business Unit Reinsurance.
  • Develop and promote a performance culture that realizes that success is dependent on an all-inclusive deal team.
  • Ensure compliance with Swiss Re guidelines.

 

About You:

 

Professional Experience and Life Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working in the North American insurance market.
  • Significant and varied experience in the insurance market either in Underwriting, Risk Management or Insurance Sales/Marketing complemented by practical experience in structuring and executing innovative risk transfer solutions.
  • Working experience in a multi-cultural and cross-functional environment.
  • Strong entrepreneurial mindset and focus on execution, pronounced bias towards closing strong deals.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and facilitation skills.
  • Sound, strategic and consistent decision-making skills.
  • Strong networking skills.
  • Excellent team player with the ability to work well in a virtual team environment.
  • Extraordinary influencing and negotiation skills to drive complex solutions over the finish line.

 

Technical Skills

  • Solid know-how of traditional and innovative re/insurance products and markets.
  • Strong financial acumen with deep corporate finance and capital management proficiency.
  • Strong analytical capabilities.

 

Language Skills

  • Fluency in English is required and good command of at least one other language, e.g. Spanish or Portuguese is preferred.

 

Educational Experience:

  • Master's degree in economics, corporate finance or mathematics, or equivalent education preferred.

 

Miscellaneous:

  • Willingness to travel.
