About the Role


As the Standard Cyber Product Expert, you will be responsible for creating simple, standard products, including underwriting standards, rules and guidelines, that meet the needs of Standard customers.

You will provide subject matter expertise ensuring high quality underwriting, effective policy language, risk adequate pricing, profitability, controllership, and product management. Work very closely with underwriters, actuaries and regulatory operations, you will develop, steer and monitor the Cyber portfolio.


You will balance the need to enable profitable growth, with the requirement to maintain an acceptable loss ratio within Standard Casualty.


Collaboration will be crucial and deep industry expertise in the Cyber market underwriting is a must. You will drive profitability through leadership and a disciplined underwriting approach.


This opportunity involves:

  • Developing and executing the strategic growth plan for the Standard Cyber product within the context of the overall Corporate Solutions strategy.
  • Managing all aspects of a large MGA relationship.
  • Handling Cyber referrals; making underwriting decisions within assigned authority levels and managing the escalation of cases exceeding your authority.
  • Creating rules, underwriting guidelines and best practices for the Standard Cyber Product.
  • Collaborating with the Risk Management department to ensure all risk controls are in place and adopted.
  • Supporting Underwriting in drafting policy language and ensure appropriate use of policy forms, endorsements, pricing, and underwriting tools.
  • Consulting with the Claims department on the more complex cyber claims.
  • Shepherding new policy language through the legal, contracts, claims and filings teams.
  • Collaborating with the Business Units, Actuarial Services, and the data science team to assure the development of pricing methodologies and tools.
  • Supporting Standard Products activities to achieve Cycle Management goals. Contributing to periodic in-depth portfolio analyses and provide ad-hoc reports on latest underwriting developments; analysis, assessment or compilation of underwriting driven reports on a qualitative and quantitative basis.
  • Accountability for consistent, profitable growth in the region.



About You


  • You will have at least 10 years of underwriting and leadership experience in North American Cyber market with an established track record of building, leading and maintaining a cohesive, profitable portfolio. You will also have experience handling MGA business.
  • Strong business and financial acumen are critical, and you will have an open-minded, intellectually curious approach to everything you do. You are likely someone who is continually learning from a variety of sources.
  • You communicate clearly and simply – even when dealing with complicated problems and ideas – and you do so both verbally and in writing. When interacting with colleagues of every level of seniority and experience, you are empathetic and sensitive, and you adjust your communication style to meet the needs of others.
  • You have had the experience of or the ability to operate collaboratively in a matrixed organization effectively using your people and leadership capabilities.
  • Willingness to travel once safe to do so.
