The Property Complex unit handles all individual risk submissions for facultative business in North America for both the broker and direct channel. This is an exciting opportunity for a high producing Property Underwriter to work with a diverse group of clients in a channel neutral environment. It is a position that will allow an underwriter to grow and expand their knowledge across all industry classes, insurance perils, and layer structures, including both proportional and non-proportional placements. It will entail analyzing risk using state of the art proprietary modeling tools for both fire and natural catastrophe exposures and coming up with creative reinsurance solutions based on clients' needs. 

About the Role

  • Underwrite a large volume of Property accounts with a TIV above $500,000,000, across all occupancy classes including large municipalities, Fortune 500 companies, Industrial and Energy risks.  Experience in Power Gen, Mining and Chemical industries a plus.  Maintain underwriting quality and profitability of the Property Complex Single Risk Fac portfolio
  • Exercise judgement, negotiate, and make sound underwriting decisions effectively based on level of underwriting authority and through analysis via our various proprietary modeling tools
  • Manage risk on a portfolio level by taking into consideration key exposure aggregations and pricing business deals in line with group guidelines and metrics 
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external business partners
  • Execute the group's marketing and underwriting strategies in collaboration with fellow team members, leadership, and other fac business units to service a diverse, nationwide client base of brokers and direct client underwriters to maintain the existing flow of business as well as establishing potential new growth opportunities
  • Maximize underwriting and processing efficiencies leveraging existing and future Smart & Lean approaches and tools
  • Identify from the portfolio of individual risk business, opportunities to transition business to our online underwriting platform (Swift Re) and our reinsurance portfolio team

    Preferred locations: New York, Chicago, Alpharetta and San Francisco.  Remote location is possible for the right candidate

About the Team:

This role reports to one of the Team Leads in Property Complex Single Risk Facultative.

About You:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business or related field speaking to financial acumen
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of single risk underwriting experience with current property underwriting authority – primary insurance experience in large/national account segment a plus
  • Strong negotiation and decision-making skills
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • High degree of familiarity with insurance modeling and/or rating tools and underwriting systems and processes for both Fire and Nat Cat perils a plus
  • Knowledge of the U.S. property insurance market; specific knowledge of the Property Fac market, including brokers and major cedents, a plus
  • Ability to work independently or within a team environment as the need arises
  • Shows positive attitude, high degree of motivation and proven collaborative behavior
  • Travel required as needed
